Because you don’t want to come across as a thin skinned pussy, and Smith is so stupid and narcissistic, he thinks him bitch slapping Rock across the stage makes him look like a man defending his family.

Its for show. Smith knew Rock read a scripted line, he knew Rock didn't make it up so there was no reason to take it out on Rock

It was for show.

Just another random thought, but how likely is it Will smith was paying that close attention to what Chris Rock was saying? Keep in mind, he would have known all cameras were going to be on him when Rock mentioned his name, so he'd have been more concerned with how he looked for that. Plus, think of any roast you've ever seen...most people try and be a good sport and laugh along. Most people aren't as self righteous as Will and Jada Smith though, so I could see him not paying attention to the specifics closely and acting along with the joke only to have it finally land and see Jada's reaction to it and flip.

Do you really think the Williams sisters would put up with this fricking shite if they knew Will had planned this in advance? I’m sure they’re going to demand an apology from Will as it stands, nevertheless if this was planned in advance. You really have to be a special kind of stupid to think this was staged.

Or, Hollywood does stunts and has been known to stir up controversy since it's literal inception, and anyone trusting anything Hollywood and the mainstream media puts out in 2022 as truth and gospel needs to reexamine the last 5 years.

Questioning a bunch of lying assholes in which an entire industry is based on is not a "special kind of stupid"

Also people are forgetting that literally the two biggest figures in women’s sports reputation was on the line as well. I can’t imagine Venus and Serena aren’t pissed at Will today.

Not only them, but also Questlove, Jessica Chastain, and the cast & crew of Coda.

This is an industry that is pissed about the technical awards being pre-taped this year. They aren't going to be happy their biggest awards were overshadowed by this stupidity.

What gain do they get from this specific stunt, and was this really the best stunt they came up with?

Jussie came up with a better scripted story.

We Won a championship, while you moaned and cried.

You missed out because you hated the head coach and wanted LSU to lose. That's how stupid you are.

What does 1. Will Smith 2. Chris Rock 3. The Academy have to gain from scripting a fight over a joke about a black woman losing her hair from a disease?

How?

You think after three decades in the industry Will Smith is ignorant to how it works?

Honestly, I'm trying to follow this line of thinking because it was my first reaction as well.

But why THIS controversy as it played out? Could Chris Rock, one of the funniest ever stand ups and a team of paid writers PLUS will Smith have not come up with a better scenario for attention than what actually took place?

I'm not at all saying that all of them would not pull a stunt...but for the life of me I'm not seeing this one.

I'd be more inclined to believe this if the joke wasn't a throwaway, non-inspired, hack joke that wasn't even remotely funny OR offensive.

It doesn't add up.

Gi Jane 2, cant wait to see it!

Yea, idk doesn't seem like the straw breaking the camels back kind of joke. It's low effort, and lazy, no way that actually "offended" anybody.

Publicity.

Did you care about the Oscars or Will Smith before today?

What about Jada?

Chris Rock?

Writers write, artists read and act. Award shows are scripted.

Even a 5 year old could tell you that.

I have a hard time believing this is legit. They have kids, all that. He's going to just go up there and slap the guy without knowing the potential consequences? I don't see it.

Have you seen his kids? And of course Will Smith would go up and slap someone without knowing the potential consequences since he think he’s literally invincible. Yes, this is absolutely something Will Smith would do, he just typically has someone from his entourage go rough someone up and scaring them rather than do it in person.

quote:

There are too many variables involved that would suggest otherwise.

I don't care how much money either party has, why would they just throw hands on national tv?

Because they’re narcissistic assholes who have been told they can get away with anything. Hell OJ bragged openly to Nicole that he was going to kill her and that he would get away with it too, and he was right. In Hollywood it’s rules for thee but not for me.

quote:

They could've easily talked to Chris Rock backstage if they were that upset about it.

Yeah, like Chris is going to give a shite about doing that. No, the Smiths are the type of people that if you remotely disagree with them that you have dishonored them. Please listen to that family talk sometime.
