uh it already was legalized. They've already issued permits for the first dispensaries. They originally said they'd be open July 1st, but I think that's been pushed back.

The big thing is recreational pot. There's no reason to keep trying to police marijuana at this point. Adding tax revenue and decreasing police/court/prison expenditures seems like a win-win. Which probably means we'll be the last state to do it.

They did, it's just really in name only. No smokeable/flowered allowed, and the list of conditions that are eligible is very narrow.

No flowers, but the conditions include:
- Cancer
- HIV/ AIDS
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Crohn’s Disease
- Cachexia
- Epilepsy
- Severe autism
- Glaucoma
- PTSD
- Parkinson's
- Chronic Pain
- Severe Muscle Spasms

Can’t wait til it is. I have my ducks in order. Got the land for the grow op. Got the shop name. Got the finances in order. All I’m waiting on is for our state to wake up and smell the roses

looks like a few that could be taken advantage of.

New Orleans would be a giant smoke cloud 24/7

This just isn't true.

Amsterdam, Denver, Portland, etc. are not big smoke clouds.

Frankly, its a ridiculous assertion that is often made by the anti-marijuana people.

Do what Colorado did and put close to 100% of the tax revenue into the school system with major transparency into the newly created funds.

The state with the country’s harshest marijuana laws can become the 30th to legalize medical cannabis on June 26 when Oklahoma voters go to the polls to decide on State Question 788. LINK Let me hear what y’all think. Would this ever happen in LA?

Oklahoma will be the 30th, because Louisiana was the 29th

Nine licenses have been awarded for one dispensary in each of the nine regions designated by the Department of Health in Louisiana.

H&W Drug Store, LLC, which is owned and operated by Ruston Henry, a graduate of Xavier University’s pharmacy school, will serve Region 1, including Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes.

Patients are able to purchase medicine from any dispensary in the state, as long as they have a recommendation from a licensed physician.

H&W Pharmacy’s medical marijuana dispensary is set to be located in a leased space at 4718 Paris Avenue in the Oak Park Shopping Center. Henry said recently he anticipates opening early next year.

These are the winners

Know lots of people that had "chronic pain" in DC.

You need more ducks in a row. You’re not just going to be able to open up shop and rake in the cash.

My cousin owns one of the oldest dispensaries in Colorado and it was years in the making.

At least one of the states that shares a border with us will have to legalize it first and start making a profit, then envy will drive LA to legalize.

Same process will soon be underway with sports gambling.

Marijuana isn’t medicine. If any thing it’s the opposite because it’s bad

from what I read here, the windfall would probably go into some politician pockets rather than to solve your budget problems.

Well, this is Louisiana we’re talking about here.

One problem with legalization is the "big business" aspect of it. The government will get rich from the taxes. The politicians will do everything they can to insure that their friends own the shops that sell it.
They will set up administrative barriers to the small businessperson having a business.

In some respects, it might be better to just eliminate the criminal penalty completely and let the small dealers to their thing.

Sounds more like a big government issue.

Knowing the state, these guys will probably soon be visited by DEA with kickbacks from seizures for local PD's (under federal Equitable Sharing programs). That way they still make money and dont have to file state charges.
