Will the 3rd world be crushed by COVID? Due to shitty healthcare systems?
Or will 3rd world shrug it off like the homeless in Boston apparently did?

I've got no idea.
Any thoughts?

No but it will kill off less than 5% of the population though.

Do you live in NOLA? If so, you may not have to go far to see

I lean that way too.
I had a buddy from Kenya(not really 3rd world) in my lab in grad school.
He'd had Malaria twice.
He was like "it was no big deal"

A lot of 3rd world countries don't have the following:

- Large elderly population (people don't live as long)
- Obese people

So they'll have less in both "at risk" population buckets I'd assume.

Ummmm, yeah I'm thinking it will. We're not going to starve, but the third world is screwed, specifically Africa. China has been buying so much farmland down there that it's the size of a mid-sized country. When we and the West stick a boot up China's arse when this is all said and done, they're going to take it out on Africa. They've been preparing for this for years. I would not be surprised if tens of millions of Africans starve to death over this over the next few years.

Decimate? It probably won't kill 10%. Some will get hit hard I imagine, but they will keep on keeping on and take their casualties. They aren't nearly as squeamish. It will actually be interesting to see how they do compared to the panic fueled first world.

No. Although we’ll never truly know the impact in many of those places due to lack of modern healthcare infrastructure.

Third world countries, especially in Africa, don’t have near as many of the obesity issues that seem to exacerbate Covid.

Africa is not going to get killed by the coronavirus directly, it will be killed through China. I don't think people understand the game that China has been playing there for decades. They don't think like us. Americans on average can only think 4 years in advance max. China on the other hand plans 20-40 years down the line. We've been playing checkers while they have been playing chess when it comes to the long haul.

China has been buying land specifically for an emergency to feed their people. Whether it be global warming, World War 3, or this pandemic, they are smart enough to know the West would eventually wise up to who they really were. They knew this situation and tolerance from the West was finite. The West is about to put a boot up China's arse, and they're going to take it out on Africa. I shutter to think what they're about to do to that continent. It was only a matter of time before this bomb that China has been rigging for year explodes, and I think it's just arrived. Ever since living over there, I've been obsessed with what they're doing in Africa, and from the start it was clear that the only end for it was tragedy.

No we won't. Half of the US and 3/4ths of Europe are deathly afraid they'd be called racists if they even thought about punishing any Asian person.

This will pass and China will get another pass. See the Hong Kong ordeal from this past fall.

3rd world countries won’t have as near a percentage of COVID deaths because they have less obesity and a smaller percentage of elderly people.

Now the trickle down of a worldwide recession will hurt them, but their deaths probably won’t be terrible from this.

It already is...worst outbreak(per capita) in the world is in Ecuador...

quote:

Jorge Wated, who heads a government task force charged with collecting and burying bodies in Guayaquil, the epicenter of the outbreak, said that in the first 15 days of April, 6,703 people had died from either COVID-19 or natural causes. Previous to the coronavirus outbreak, he said, the monthly figure was around 1,000.

quote:

"Many of these patients need hospital care but the hospitals – the whole health-care system – is full," says Herdocia, who is 26. He says that with the help of relatives or taxis, "they drive around the city all night looking for a hospital but there's no room."

Herdocia can't keep up with all the phone pleas for medical attention from his patients. By the time he arrives at their homes, some of them have already died.
