Hah, I bought one a few years ago for $5. I wanted one so bad when I was a kid.

Basic rule of thumb. Almost everything that becomes a known "collectible" will never be worth shite.

Baseball cards from bygone eras are worth something because kids actually used them, played with them, put them in their bike spokes etc etc. As such, 50 years later, virtually no pristine ones were left. Hence, they became sought after.

Now, every fricking card with even the slightest potential likely has several hundred copes of them slapped in something airtight and will look as good 50 years from now as the day it was made. The shite that will be chased after 50 years from now will be shite virtually no one considers collectible right now.

The Upper Deck series were awesome. Even the Ken Griffey misprints were worth quite a bit

I have some. I have hundreds of random cards of all types throughout the 80s (excluding the 1986-1990 period for which I have about 25,000), and some late 70s.

Lots of noteworthy cards like a few of the 85 McGuire Olympic cards, the 85 Olympic set, Cal Ripken rookie, Ricky Henderson rookie and others. Problem is those aren't mint or near mint. They have a rounded corner or something wrong so they are all kinda useless too.

The Olympic McGuires are mint or near mint, but who cares. They are not worth whatever I paid for them and I'm not about to ask my parents to try to go through the cards to pick out some that might be worth a few bucks, get them graded, try to sell them, etc. Would be depressing to hear them tell me I'm stupid for cutting grass every spring and summer all the time to spend every last penny for years on a pile of shite, lol.

Those cards are gonna stay where they are, maybe forever unless whoever buys the house after my parents pass tries to sell them.

Absolute worst place in the house to keep them if you are looking to save them. The heat will eventually get to them ---- if mice or roaches don't get there first.

Found an old box of cards. Had seven Jerry Rice rookie cards.
All have bad corners though.

I actually held 4 of the “frick Face” cards about 3 weeks ago.
A guy handed me the card laughing his arse off. I looked at them for 5 minutes before it was pointed out.
Also has a 24k gold Nolan Ryan rookie card, Bo Jackson autographed bat, and countless other priceless pieces of memorobillia.
We’ve googled for hours and estimated the collection to be right around 20K on the low end
Edit: not sure who downvotes this, if you’d like to purchase something out of the collection, it’s all for sale and that’s one thing, but don’t get jealous and start downvoting.
Edit#2:it’s a massive collection, not just the few cards I’ve mentioned.

You can’t get more then 5 bucks for any card that was produced in the last 40 years

This is very wrong. In the late 90s card makers started making premium sets with limited print runs, and short printing rookies in the main sets.

There are cards printed in the last 15 years that sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars.

1. Overproduction
2. eBay

so no unfortunately. I got a ton of nice 90's Michael Jordans that aren't even worth much but back then collectors were all the rage for them

I'd like to know if porn mags like Swank, High Society and Juggs from back then will be worth anything.

There is a "red dot" variation to the Topps Chipper RC that seems to be a bit more rare but to answer the OP question, there is a possibility the higher end high grade graded cards can carry a nice premium as the years go by and who knows in general but the new stuff is so awesome these days it makes that era look really bad in comparison. I set up at a market once monthly and it makes me chuckle as some stroll by and try to assume that cards are not valuable these days because they naively assign 80's prices to current. I am thinking a) I wouldn't be wasting my time out here selling them and b) Tell that to my fresh $1,000+ pulls out of packs that you're standing in front of as you spew your nonsense.

Went to the local coin/card show last year, and there were three or four card vendors, with almost no customers in their area.

This year, yesterday, there was only one card vendor. The coin tables were drawing a decent number of folks,

While your story might be valid, it is anecdotal and way off base from my experience. Try looking on ebay and break sites if you question the card market popularity.

This notion that you can't get $5 for a card in the last 40 years is absolute foolish naivete...if you can post on this site you can just as easily look cards up on eBay and see how mindless this notion is. How ridiculous!
