I’m talking about the local people here in the area I keep seeing FB post with people asking “I thought the officials said it was contained/out”

eah there’s seems to be a misconception on what contained means
I want "Contained" to really mean "Extinguished" but I know that no matter how much I want it to be so, it is not so. A Contained fire is a condition that means that there's still fire there in some spots.

They burn it so the power poles want burn in an uncontrolled fire.
I was with one of the bosses of Entergy Houma yesterday afternoon and he said the fire did some damage to some of their equipment yesterday.

Why should the State foot the bill for local firefighters? How about the parishes and municipalities make their first responders a priority?

Insurance companies should help fund firefighters imho

Cause their ain't much of a tax base in a lot of those parishes and municipalities. Little industry, few people, and they all po'. They have the first responders they need for normal trouble but no surge capacity.

These aren't local firefighters and it isn't the state footing the bill.

Entergy has a major feeder that goes across that basin. See the light green line.
Luckily the line is on medal poles.
This is the area where the parish wants to put a nature park and reservoir.

Of course Entergy has transmission lines that were damaged. Par for the course. Time for rates to increase again!
And yes, slightly joking, but kind of not.

Of course, paying the few local folks more isn't a bad idea. Those aren't the people who are fighting the Tiger Island Fire, though. They're lending support and likely taking care of other, smaller fires that pop up, but there is a Federal Wildland firefighting team that numbers nearly a couple hundred (347 people on this fire total) leading the way and calling the shots in regards to plan and attack. There are also state forestry resources involved and some National Guard. Without that Federal response team this fire would have rolled all of those towns in the area.
Those are the people getting shafted by our elected officials who refuse to pass a pay raise, or even an extension of their current pay. Many of those people will see a ~30% cut in pay if nothing is done, and some will approach a 50% cut. Their numbers have already been on the decline since the Fed vaccine mandate resulted in many walking away. Some teams in some areas are now made up of 50% first year people, and the turnover rate was already shite to begin with.

It's back this evening with a vengeance. It was reported yesterday as Contained, not "put out." It jumped Containment a matter of hours ago.
This makes me sad. My Grandparents had a place near there about 200 acres. It's a nice area if you want to be left alone for sure.

Start contacting your representatives and tell them to pass a damn permanent pay raise or quite a few of them are probably going to walk.

Spotlight on Louisiana (again), which has the highest % of Exceptional Drought (D4-the highest level) in the US. 21.2% of LA is in D4, most since 2011. Several large wildfires are burning. The Tiger Island fire is one of the largest in LA history.

Yep, comparable to 2011 at this point.
Let's hope it doesn't linger nearly as long as that drought.
