So .. anyone with any idea how far these things can t spread? I know there are a ton of factors but if you’re 35 miles south of Singer, are you even sort of concerned?

This is, was, beautiful Sierra Nevada wilderness. Now it will take 3 - 4 decades before those areas look like how I remember them. It's sad to think about.

Fire in the wilderness is one thing. You can look at it and rationally understand that it is part of a process that is as old as the planet itself, and know that Nature will take care of itself and be the better for it eventually. Seeing it come into conflict with civilization is another thing entirely. Knowing people's lives and livelihoods are threatened changes it all.

We've spent decades, a generation or two now, taking Smokey's advice and stamping out forest fires when we should have been managing them better, knowing that fire is natural in all geographic regions in our country. When you keep every single fire from burning, you wind up with an unmanageable fuel load. I've come to the conclusion that fire will happen in Nature, one way or another. We desperately need to be better stewards.

Definitely check the winds. Fires can spread really really quickly on their own. Add in high winds (which a big enough fire can create all on its own) and you might have problems. From some of the images I've seen the forest is pretty dense and it sounds like there hasn't been much in terms of controlled burns. If all of the above is true and the winds are heading in your general direction...

I'd start to pack up your more important things just in case an evacuation order is given. You have time now. That won't necessarily be the case if an order is given. Get in touch with friends and family so that they know your evacuation plan, route & destination too. You don't want loved ones having to wonder "what if" something happened to you and yours.

Don’t think there’s danger to Moss Bluff. If it gets to Longville or Ragley then I’d be nervous. I don’t think wildfires spread as fast here because we don’t get the extreme high winds and there are loads of bayous and rivers to cross. Flat terrain the winds don’t get as high. But wow watching that Evan’s video is gut wrenching.

I’m hoping he’s watching it. I asked (before looking myself)’to see how far he is from singer. His reply was the he was eating roasted hot dogs and s’mores for dinner. SMH.

Very difficult to manage private lands with fire now, Kisatchie can get away with it.

Difficult, but no where near impossible if you want to do it. There's plenty of people that do.

Radar estimates are showing over an inch of rain in Merryville not sure if it’s an error or if it really did rain that much

It's right by the school now. When my sister left town she said there were a hundred emergency vehicles rushing to the school and some 18-wheelers with huge dozers going to to try to push some fire lanes around the town and school. If you go look at the school on google it is surrounded by timberland...and a cemetary which is weird.

frickkkkk. Man this is insane. I’ve been worried about my deer lease just south of singer for the past couple of days. frick that deer lease. There are real things to worry/pray about.
