You think?
How about how quickly he cleared or failed to investigate what any other law enforcement official would think are the prime suspects?

So, the former husband has trip wires to alert him when someone trespasses on his abandoned, burned down property.
And he chases his former SIL.
Yeah, he's got nothing to hide.

There is little doubt in my mind that Steve Krentel is being protected by the St Tammany Sheriff's office. I don't know if he killed his wife or not but I bet if he didn't do it himself he knows who did. Their is no way they shouldn't have already solved this.

I don't know that the deceased wife had a sordid past, but if she did, I'm sure someone would have pinned the murder/arson on someone.
But, we all know who did this, and the Sheriff has no intentions on arresting his former fire chief.

That NOLA article was a very interesting read. Thanks for the link.

There was nothing sordid in her past. The whole Krentel investigation was botched in my opinion.

People Magazine Investigates” is doing an episode on this tonight on ID Discovery
I recall watching this episode.
The Fire Chief, IMO, was not involved. But I also believe we landed on the moon.

He may very well not have been, but the way they Sheriff seemed to actively avoid investigating him will always leave a lot of room for suspicion. St. Tammany doing St. Tammany things.

I get that and it was addressed often in the episode. That's why it was pretty clear, to me anyway, that he was not involved.

Why did it take this long to determine a gunshot wound to the head was cause of death?

The sheriff is protecting the fire chief who is protecting someone.

I saw the special on Investigation Discovery.
I am friends with both Randy Smith and Warren Montgomery. I know for a fact that if her husband had any role in this he would have or will be arrested, charged and prosecuted.
Unlike their predecessors, neither of those men are even remotely corrupt. Despite being friends with both, I couldn’t get out of a speeding ticket due to my relationship with either/or both.
The same goes for Stephen. If he isn’t arrested, it’s because he is innocent, not because of who he knows.

Isn't that the guy with about 14 butt buddies?

That guy hasn't been the sheriff for years

Him not being arrested doesn’t mean he’s innocent. They just haven’t found something to directly tie him to it. And they don’t appear to be searching for it either. I think he’s guilty all day

didn't some in this thread say his brother was a loon druggie that was pissed at the wife that was killed?

I’ve known Montgomery for years and he is excellent. His victory was a great achievement for democracy over corruption even at such a small local level. I know Smith well enough but a lot of his actions or lack thereof are head scratchers to me. I get the feeling he’s either potentially dirty or inept, but then again there’s no telling what condition the department was in when he took over after so many years with Strain entrenched, so perhaps he’s just got a billion land mines to navigate.
