Why would you fly out of Baton Rouge?? Hobby airport is 4 hours closer to my house!!

Depends on the final destination.
If I fly international, I have to stop in Houston, Dallas, LAX etc anyways. So I'd fly out of BR

There is British Airways to London out of New Orleans or Toronto on Air Canada out of New Orleans too, and from there, you can get connecting flights as well.
However, your point still stands for the majority of international destinations.

Most of the time I fly Delta out of BTR. If pricing is waaay cheaper out of MSY I'll do that but usually the price of parking and the inconvenience of driving to New Orleans offsets the price of money saving at MSY. I can easily get people drop me off and pick me up from BTR. I also generally don't mind a single flight to another larger airport, but try not to do multiple connections.
at people calling BTR a dump. It's a small regional airport but for such an airport it's pretty nice. It's one of the better things BR has.
If you live in BR or a bit north of it, it's a great option. Ascension Parish or south really have no reason to use it over MSY.
