Lots of 9/11 discussions and I have always wondered about the Pentagon as a target.

The WTC always made some sense in that it was a symbol of American capitalism and seen in numerous TV shows and movies. In a way the WTC has surpassed the Empire State building for iconic skyline status. ESB would also have been a harder target to hit.

We know 4 planes were hijacked and the other 2 were headed to DC, where the 4th was aimed we will never know. With that being said a plane had little chance to do severe damage to a building the size of the Pentagon. I know it is the symbol of USA military, but it had the least amount of shock value. The US Capital and White House would have done the most damage to the mental state of America. I could see the WH being a hard target to hit though.

If was not for the inferior design of the WTCs that made them collapse, 9/11 would not be as major an event (still major though). 3 planes hitting buildings was shocking, but the fact 2 huge buildings fell is what placed it on Pearl Harbor level of national shock.

If they were trying to kill as many people as possible, they could have flown all 4 planes into highrise office buildings, or into a sports stadium during a game, or any other building where large numbers of people congregate.

They were trying to send a message.

Inferior design of the WTC. Most experts say any other building of its height would of collapsed upon impact.

To make a strike against the US military. Other than kill a lot of peiple, it did nothing to hurt the US military. We don’t need the Pentagon to wage war. Honestly, you can wipe out all of DC, and the military will be just fine. It might actually be more dangerous. There would be nothing to hold the leash on our monster of a military. You don’t need politicians to fight wars. And the goat frickers over there learned that the hard fricking way.

Well, what I've always heard the official story was that the WTC represented the financial, the Pentagon the military, and the plane taken down in Pennsylvania was meant for the Capitol Building or the White House, representing to government.

Head if the snake military wise, thought it was known the Capitol was the target of the 4th plane, is that not true?

It's narrowed down to 2 likely targets, the WH or the Capitol, almost certainly the WH.

Economy - WTC
Military - Pentagon
Government - White House (supposedly)

Seems so easy to me. Even just a helicopter. I am surprised it was never attempted.

It's still a huge deal if only one plane is hijacked and rammed into the Pentagon

If I had been sitting down to make a list of things to fly planes into the WTC towers would not have been on the list. The Pentagon definitely would have been. Not hard to understand why they chose it.

As far as understanding them, don’t try. It will only make your head hurt.

That is why I included that.

Terrorism is about installing fear though and that did the least amount. I guess if the 4th plane was a success and hit the capital or WH it would have all worked. If the WTC towers did not fall, maybe more focus would have been there as well.

In the end does not matter and they got their point across and we have since killed into the 100,000s of people over there.

I am sure they do. We will never know hopefully bur Chrysler and ESB would survive.

The first hit tower is the strangest, it was hit high up. The second makes more sense as it was hit lower, thus more weight above impact zone.

There's literally nothing confusing about why the Pentagon would be a target. Nothing.

Well, that's exactly why the second tower hit collapsed first.

Not so strange when you think about it.
