That's a subjective as a journalist these days. The Earth has cyclic weather patterns

Ice shelves collapsing may have nothing to do with temperature. They may have lost support under the glacier, or precipitation that feeds the glacier has diminished. Or, it could be a combination of things including warming.

The ice shelf that they are discussing is tidewater. Most is under water

For someone that lives in a place like Alaska and has seen how far the Matanuska glacier has retreated in the last 50 years and contiuning to do so, I'd have expected you to have a little more appreciation for how humans are affecting the planet in real-time. This is not something that will play out over 'millions of years'.

The Matanuska Glacier occupied that entire valley for hundreds of miles thousands of years ago.

Just so you know....

You might want to check your facts on that. It averages over 3,000 feet thick at the grounding line, parts are close to 4,000 feet thick.

The ice shelf is collapsing, not the glacier.

The glacier will collapse over hundreds or thousands of years. The ice shelf can go into catastrophic retreat though

Maybe you should watch the video before commenting? The melting ice shelf is allowing warm sea water to reach between the bedrock and the bottom of the glacier causing the glacier itself to start melting from inside out.

I get that. But where are the catastrophes that have been predicted for decades that were supposed to have already occurred? They really go for the oversell.

The glacier itself will not melt for hundreds or thousands off years. That is scientific truth.

The ice shelf can collapse immediately, drift south and melt, affecting us at any time.

You need to understand what a pinning point of an ice shelf is and how far out the seamount is.

The shelf is actually supported by land on both sides and much father out of the water than if it was floating, which it is not.

Climate change caused the leaves to fall off my Maple tree this fall. I've never seen this Maple tree do that before.
