Regardless of political party there has always been corruption in Louisiana.

Poverty because of Tax Exemptions. I always thought it was a lack of self control, inability to restrain oneself, and littering the landscape with children born out of wedlock. You can't possibly spend the bad environment away. Keep the exemptions coming. Some of us that want to work will benefit. There is little hope for those that don't want to work.
Maybe next week we can watch a video on reparations and how that will solve the problem.

You need to wake up and realize without these capital investments, LA economy isn't shite and we get tax dollars BECAUSE of these capital investments.
You have no idea what you're talking about. Louisiana subsidies and tax exemptions to the petrochemical industry DWARF what Texas has done. You're cherry picking ONE facility. This is typical top down socialist governmental planning that any free market capitalist should be against.
Louisiana residents have bought this BS forever, that we can't tax large businesses or they won't come here. Movie biz, petro chem, whatever. I can't find a link to it, but the Advocate did an excellent series on this some years back showing how much more Louisiana gives than any state to the 'chosen' industries.
I built a warehouse years ago for a small manufacturing facility and got a 10 year tax exemption. Sure as hell took it, but I was going to build anyway. Petro chem facilities on the Mississippi are there because there's only 1 Mississippi. Sure, there's one or two that may consider another locations, but the VAST majority are there because that's what makes economic sense, and the very small property taxes don't even show up on the income statement relative to the volume of business done.

And just to make a quick point on the video, ITEP only offers a 5-10 year exemption on property taxes. Keep in mind an exemption is not the same as the government paying companies to come here. None of these "tax revenue" numbers exist without the expansion. So once idiots like TBR get together and convince localities to deny companies their ITEP applications, that tax money that will be realized in 5-10 years never exists at all.

Just FYI, you really don't know what you are talking about.
You are akin to the people that say Trump doesn't pay taxes because he correctly used an NOL to offset income tax. They conveniently forget the 10s of millions of property, employment, and excise taxes paid during the same period.
Posted on 11/15/18 at 8:49 am to Ole War Skule
Louisiana isn't poor because of a lack of taxes paid. It's poor because it doesn't attract corporate type jobs and the associated professional services that go around them.

Because a majority of the state is stupid and proud of it.

I live in NW houston with plenty of houses but also plenty of green space.
You factor in all the items I outlined earlier and staggering how much money you can save in TX vs. LA. We save $403/month alone on car insurance savings, house insurance, and cheap electricity due to energy deregulation. Our October electric bill was $35.30 and gas was $25.11 for a 3,887 sq ft home.

It’s because of corrupt politicians, bankrupt cultures, and stupid voters.

A huge reason I left was the terrible roads. I'm also not a fan of "big government" conservatives / religious right that are just littered in this state.

White people love blaming black people for their shortcomings. This type of mindset was introduced long ago in this white supremcist society we call America. Rich whites convinced poor whites that black people were the roadblock to their economic success. Stop blaming others and pull yourself up you dumb ignorant inbreeds. Louisiana been poor for a longtime. Let’s stop acting like its something new, and over this period of time who has controlled all the resources. White people, so if anyone is to blame its you all.

Considering my career is in industrial construction, I actually do know what I am talking about as I sit in my office on a billion dollar chemical plant expansion. I can also tell you first hand how the cap on tax exemptions crippled the movie industry in Louisiana compared to before.
The projects I have done and the ones I know coming down the pipeline could all easily be done in TX or a number of other facilities but LA was chosen because of those tax exemptions. I am not saying every single one should be approved (like your warehouse) but when a company is looking to spend billions of dollars and is deciding between a few places, the one offering the best deal gets their business and tax dollars.
Look at Nashville, which was just announced for a huge Amazon investment, you think the $102M they are offering Amazon is not worth the 5,000 full-time jobs it's bringing too? I promise NOT. ONE. SINGLE. PERSON. in Louisiana would bitch if we offered Amazon these tax exemptions to get what Nashville is getting.
Links incase you don't know:

Amazon is in store for $102 million in combined government incentives from the state of Tennessee and Metro Nashville in exchange for the 5,000 high-paying jobs the company's new operations site would bring downtown.
quote:
In all three locations, the average salary for new employees will exceed $150,000 per year, Amazon announced. That six-figure salary looks very different in Nashville, though, where $150,000 will stretch much further than in New York City or Arlington.

I don't think they're stupid, they're just complacent.
Most people in La have given up on change long ago, they've got a defeatist attitude toward the State in general. However it's a great lifestyle for them personally so they don't worry too much about it.
