I don't buy this. What is the size of those schools, 2,000-3,000 kids of all sorts? What do those schools do with the trash?
The public schools in suburban areas in Houston and Dallas are really good schools. Just as good as any Catholic school.

In New Orleans it's basically a requirement that you go to a private school to get any kind of decent education. Not so in Texas. There are many really good public schools.

I went to Catholic school as a kid when I lived in the New Orleans area, but went to public school when we moved to Houston because the public schools were just as good.

It seems like this is a recurring theme in Louisiana. People are complacent or down right afraid of change. I know a tug boat captain that is pulling in 300k a year, but his wife refuses to move from their shitty house in Kenner because "it's where they raised their kids."

It's nice to be around family, but everyone should venture out at least once in their lives.

You can leave out the "in Louisiana" part.

The appearance of the school doesn't really make a difference. I'm not just talking about riff-Raff. What about the kids that are just troublemakers but not straight up criminals? My kids' schools give them the boot quickly. You deck someone, you gone. Not suspended, expelled.

Nah, LA is the only place on the planet that happens in.

I've moved away twice and ended up back here within a few years. There are places that I've liked better than LA but also many that I wouldn't live in over this place.

Again, it's not that it doesn't happen other places, just that Louisiana is a shitty place to have that mentality.

Yet you didn't mind it before?

I never felt like I was surrounded by like minded people in Louisiana. I am liberal and don't hunt or fish, and have an IQ higher than 99.99999% of people there. It was never a great fit for me.

I'd like to see some numbers before I accept it as fact. I understand that the top third are probably similar, but what about the bottom two thirds?

Just like you conveniently used a $250k house for your property tax calculation?

And that's the average for the entire state. What's the rate for the good school areas?

Okay, let's just break this down.

Average cost of home in Frisco, TX is 392k
Average cost of home in McKinney, TX is 374k

Cost of taxes on average in Frisco

Cost of taxes on average in McKinney

I don't live in New Orleans anymore but choosing Brother Martin as an example:

10k is more than 8k any day of the year and we still haven't talked about that pesky state income tax Louisiana has.

The point that the other guy made that you were responding to was he said he could send his kid to McKinney and get a better education than Catholic school.

What does the school policy on fighting have to do with how well the school educates kids?

If I didn't have family tying me to Louisiana, I would be gone. Long gone, actually.

I've maxed out my earning potential here, in my profession. I need a bigger market or a different career.

Louisiana isn't ideal for what I want to do, or what I want to make.

That, plus, past a certain point, the natural disasters and social disasters this state is prone to tend to wear on you.
