They can't buy marijuana if they gamble away all their money.

Its really disgusting. They are building a world where its going to be so easy to dig yourself into a financial hole at a young age, when you don't fully understand consequences, and never be able to recover.

So teach your kids the danger of it. I bet on sports (only college football) and I even have my kids pick games with me.

They know I bet $1 each bet and never more than $5 a week. I view this a little like alcohol, if you shield your kids from alcohol they will go off the rails, I kind of did. Luckily I was smart enough and hard working enough that I was able to get myself back on track, but it could have been really bad.

It wasn’t my parents fault, but I felt like if I drank in HS I’d be in deep shite so I never did. I’m going to introduce my kids to alcohol and gambling early so that they feel the rush, but also understand that if utilized in moderation, is no big deal.

If you have a kid under the age of 18 they probably watch one of these streamers. Nearly every single one of the streamers bombard their viewers with gambling ads. Either they themselves are spending hours gambling on streams with the company giving millions to gamble away.

That or they constantly encourage their audience to make bets on these sites. In a decade we are going to see the most gambling addiction generation of our lifetimes and it’ll be your kids.

Let me guess - you want a nanny state to do something about it, because it is your kid.

If it were someone else's kid, you'd rail on about personal and parental responsibility.

Where is your kid getting his money from?

Online gambling is ridiculously evil.

I used to bet rather large sums of disposable income on football with a bookie, and still do from time to time. I have won and loss single hands of bouret and poker for even larger sums. I have walked a golf course at a PGA event with a group of Asians clutching thousand's of dollars in our hands with action on 3-4 prop bets with every swing of the club.

None of that remotely compares to the insanity of being able to sit alone somewhere 365/24/7 and digitally place a prop bet with a high interest credit card on the happenings of an event half way around the world and have it instantly credit/debit said card within seconds. The golf thing came closest, but even then, we were physically present, you physically could see the money disappearing/appearing and there was human interaction.

And the responsibility for controlling your actions rests with who?

Why isn't it a bigger deal that the world's leader in sports broadcasting owns a gambling company that sets lines and takes bets on the games they cover?

Why should it be a big deal?

Explain please, because the enlightenment led to the reformation of the Catholic Church. It lead to secular rule of law. It lead to representative government and free market economics that broke the monopoly on power held by the very, very few politically connected families.

One could argue that today the power has been consolidated to the few again, but the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness for even the poorest of the power in America, and the west overall, is far better than the person in the same socioeconomic state prior to the reformation.

The world, and more narrowly the west, is not perfect, but it’s a frick ton better today than it was 100, 200, 500, or 1,000 years ago for 99% of the population.

What happened to the idea of personal and parental responsibility?

Thought yall wanted govt out of everything and less regulation...?

Oh you want the govt to tell you how to live in THIS situation then? Can't handle sports betting issues with your kid? Need the govt to help you out now and pass laws because you can't handle it yourself?

Who cares if some kids bet a few bucks on sports...?

Comapaies targeting kids? No Way!!! They're your kids.

Just messing... wanted to post an ahole comment...

The biggest surprise on that graphic is that Louisiana is outpacing Mississippi for commercial gaming. They have an infinitely better set up than we do. I guess those Texas people coming across the border really helped our numbers

You can bet from your phone in Louisiana.

In Mississippi you have to go to the casino.

Why is fent illegal if people want to do it

Why is prostitution illegally if women are willing

Why is pedophilia illegal if the teen agrees

Why is bribery illegally if both parties agree

Is this some nanny state bullshite?

I just watched a video about this the other day.

ETA: Apparently they use the game counterstrike and “skins” as currency to get around the laws. It’s a huge problem.

Nobody does. People want the government to leave them alone while restricting the things they don't like and punishing the people they don't like. It's human nature and very few are immune to it.. There;s a thread on the poliboard right now brainstorming ways to shut down Ivy League colleges.

Personally I think gambling is one of the worst vices. I don't think it should be illegal but it shouldn't be promoted. And by all means government and educational institutions shouldn't be in bed with it.

Which is how we ended up with schizo atheists ruling over everything and trying to make all aspects of culture as performatively degenerate as possible.

I’ll concede on the Catholic Reformation, that had to happen. Not sure protestant faith was the answer because it fractured Christianity and made it easier to dismantle in the long run

As opposed to the world where they literally sent those same kids to die in the jungle for nothing, or a world where some were second class citizens from birth
