Unrelated, but one of the co-founders is a Louisiana native. Guy must be rich as frick, a true OT baller

Explain how it is different than watching sports

In professional sports you're watching athletes perform at their peak.

A lot of twitch streamers are just dudes fricking around playing games poorly

If they are entertaining. That's what a lot of it is. You don't have to be the best at a video game if you are funny and give good commentary. Its just like enjoying to listening to some talk radio show except the dude is playing a video game while rambling. Or watching sketch comedy but its created in a video game.

Millions of people enjoy watching others play kids games like basketball, baseball, and football too.

Why is it so hard some to comprehend that people like to watch high level players for all kinds of things?

Watching chess ain't my thing but I fully get why people who enjoy chess like watching legit high level players go at it in a competitive setting.

Are the dudes at the Y entertaining? Can they do cool dunks and trick shots? Do they make funny commentary as they play? Are they good at explaining Xs and Os? If so sure, why not?

Twitch streamers who suck at the game, are boring to listen to, and who don't have anything interesting to say about whatever game they play aren't the ones getting the views my dude.

The biggest streamers all have a hook. It's not like Joe Nobody who gets killed in the first 5 seconds of every Counterstrike match is getting thousands of subs.

When I used to play MOBAs, I used twitch to watch professional players. (When they aren't competing most of them stream for extra income). I know I will never be that good because I am too old, but I picked up a few pointers.

I’m technically in the oldest year or two of millennials and the idea of watching someone else play video games would’ve never been appealing to me at any age. We all wanted to actually play. I always assumed there was some other reason for the popularity from a social aspect.

Same reason sports are popular. It's entertaining. And it's not just about the games. The commentary is entertaining too.
