I'm not jealous or obsessed with it, but I am confused how people make it.
I just stopped a job application for a college teaching position because I relooked at the rent prices out there. If I got this job, I'd start at $75k, which is really high for a teaching position.
I'd have to commute about 2 hours with traffic to find a decent family home to rent and even then, the schools have shitty ratings. The rent is STILL around $2000/month.

Cut out for what? Losing 20 hours of my week so I can not see my family and then put my kids in a crappy school system?
You have to be really wealthy (compared to most of America) to make it in California. It's a fascinating topic to me that people are able to be "cut out for it," which is why I am typically present in threads about California.
