My husband wants us to move to Bend, Oregon one day. I haven’t been yet. Is it nice? He talks about the place like it is paradise.

California could never get an event as lively and educational as the Tarpon Rodeo out of the planning stage

So B hurt his back so bad that he could be alone all weekend and take care of himself but couldn’t go chill with you in Cali?

Sounds like he’s planning to just lay around pooping pain pills and watch college basketball all weekend.

i don't think it's California they hate.

it's a freaking beautiful state. as a hunter, biker, trail runner, and fisherman, i'd love to have an excuse to live there.

then i talk to friends who live in 300k houses that would be 75k houses here and dash those dreams quickly.

on the politics side, i think people put a lot of their hate for hollywood on California in particular. nobody likes to be made inferior and Hollywood likes to act like they know better than the rest of us. Jennifer Lawrence is a HS dropout from Kentucky and has made numerous disparaging comments about the south. whether it's fair or not, the hatred for things like that carry over to the state itself.

talk to people in northern Cali and they will out southern/conservative you in a hurry.

Last time he hurt his back like this....he had to fly to Louisiana and drive a moving truck with my family’s stuff. 2 weeks after that he had to have epidural spinal injections for a bulging disc.

I could have guilted him into going, but that would have sucked as well. He can barely walk right now. 6 hour drive today and Sunday and all the wlaking around would have likely sent him back to spinal injections

Eta: he refuses to take pain pills btw ...,only ibuprofen and try occasional muscle relaxer his dr prescribed. He has a full bottle of percocets from when he dislocated his elbow on NYE that he never touched.

Yeah I don't see no Obsession on this board with California. I think because it's so populous it's just an easy Target. Same as Texas is with the Liberals. Neither state is even that great of an ideal representative of their political leanings. Massachusetts is way more liberal than California and Mississippi is way more conservative in Texas, for example.

Bend is nice, but it is getting too infiltrated and is starting to lose its charm. That and Joseph (and Wallowa Lake) are still two towns to check out. Still hate much of East Oregon, and not a fan of Portland either. When I am going west, I just stop at Hood River and don't bother with Hipster City.

When my mom was a kid my grandparents owned a 5000sq ft waterfront home on Lido Isle with 2 docks. Well when my mom was 16, in 1966, my grandfather took one of the boats out and disappeared. They never found the boat or his body but another boat went missing that day so they assumed they crashed and within months they sold the home. If they had kept it could you imagine how effing much that home would be worth today?
