Why don't you turn off the breaker to the rooms in question...

If I shut everything off, can I turn the power off to the entire house without hurting anything?
Nothing will be damaged if you turn off the power to your house.

When you turn the power back on, well, that's another story.....

Yes, all women are stupid bimbos with no knowledge of "manly" stuff.

I researched it (but I have no carpentry skill so I had the actual work one). I called Steinway to get advice on the floors and some other acoustic issues.

Why do you say that? I'm about to go shut this down. I'm going to go next door and get my neighbor to help, don't want to hit the wrong thing.

ETA: Going to shut off all the power. BRB.

A power surge can damage electronic equipment. Also, if your refrigerator or air conditioner is running when you turn the power off and you immediately turn the power back on, it can sometimes damage the compressor.

He says that because sometimes when you turn it off and then back on, weird things happen. Breakers trip, microwaves stop working, TVs blow out, your vibrating bed wont take quarters any more, shite like that....

I have a Sauter. Antique dirty top pine over a slab. No hum here.

My money is on the fridge, freezer, or water cooler.

Yoga Girl
get the couch's legs off the floor. put something soft under each leg.
double fold towels.

see if it stops.

I might be outting myself as a crazy person but I have often woken up in the middle of the night and heard a static-y radio signal coming from my turned off/unplugged alarm clock, and this has happened all my life.

I heard plenty of stories of people whose teeth with new fillings picked up a local radio station.

the acoustics of the couch is amplifying something. what, is the question.

Wish I had read that before I shut down.

With the power off, there was no hum. But, that doesn't mean that there isn't something sketchy going on - sofas (obviously) don't make noise.

maybe there is something shaking the house causing something in the couch to vibrate. Like an a/c unit or washer dryer.

They do if there is some type of recorder in them.

could the sound actually be coming from one of the drum heads? Maybe a vibration from washing machine or something?
