Because they get shredded on the Poli Board. Here people are generally more laid back and/or don’t feel like getting into it as much. So they’re able to persist better.

My take on this is that you're construing "politics" too broadly.
Controversial topics are not necessary "politics." Social issue aren't, either, nor are arguments about epidemiology. Issues of race aren't "politics."
I suspect the fact that Americans now call anything with a whiff of conflict or controversy about it "politics" is just one more reflection of their inflated view of the role of government.
Politics are not what got us here and they're not fixing us.
