Because the seller has more to lose with his assets than the buyer does.

We all like to buy stuff, not have to sell.

I buy arse. You sell yours.

this is a very decent analogy of the real world. True story. Pussy depreciates as soon as it leaves the dealer.

Thank you for this exposition on contract law. I am now that much stupider having read your nonsensical post.

Taking a vantage of the ignorant can also be unethical. The short-sellers who looted the 401(k)s during the financial collapse, knowing that a) most people can’t short sell in their 401ks, b)many 401ks don’t have a reasonable fixed interest option to move their money to and c) 401k transaction often move at the speed of molasses, should burn.

I am 100% in support of overhauling our financial system, but short sellers can only short what some one else is willing to buy.

Yes, taking advantage of people is wrong, but short sellers serve a purpose in the market. Now, bankers that were using predatory lending practices should be in jail.

We agree here.

I think a good spin-off would be "Why do sellers always think their property is more valuable than what it actually is?"

As someone who works in real estate, I can say with confidence, there are exponentially more delusional sellers than there are buyers.

And the short sellers seem to lose more than they win as evidenced by the consistent collapse of many hedge funds that employ such strategies.

This couldn't be more wrong when buying and selling houses.

The seller pays realtor fees. The buyer does not.

Both pay taxes and closing cost.

no, being a dumbass is just being a dumbass, getting or taking advantage of a great deal is just being smart, there is nothing wrong with that and anyone who thinks there is is a dumbass.

Similar situation. Bought my first house from a guy who was going thru a divorce, and was being transferred to Houston when Shell was pulling out of New Orleans. Was hard up for cash, offered 75% of asking price and he jumped on it. At closing, was pissing and moaning about how we ripped him off.
