They’ve been in a spat with Babylon Bee (a satire site) for a while now and it’s been hilarious.

Reality Criticized For Not More Clearly Distinguishing Itself From Satire
Fact-checkers and fake news watchdogs have called on reality to label itself after real news stories insisted on sounding like satire. Experts proposed forcing real news stories to include labels like [REAL NEWS] in the headline. They could also include parentheticals throughout that read things like "(Just as a reminder, this actually happened and is not satire)." Then, the article could conclude with a notice saying, "What you just read was an actual thing that actually happened." "The problem with all these real news sites is they're reporting things that would have been satirical just six months ago," said a representative for one popular joke-checking website. "It makes it really hard for satire sites to do their job effectively when all this reality is out there muddying the details of satire

I was unsure so I checked with an online fact check site. They said Snopes was awesome.
Please quit starting threads. Tia.

Babylon Bee is shredding Snopes credibility.
Snopes is too dumb to see it.

Meh
When Aunt Velma sends you that email about Proctor and Gamble supporting a devil worshipper, they aren't a bad source to make people look like fools.
When the lines start getting crossed up, they are probably a mess though.

I don’t think they’re too dumb to see it. I think they genuinely think they’re the purveyor of truth

Snopes has been fact checking memes and Babylon Bee satire. It's a shitty organization.

RCP did a fact check of fact-checkers and found Snopes to be the most accurate in terms of the true/false binary but they are they lean left in the editorializing beyond that.

Yep. Reason had an article about it. They fact checked a story about that crazy state representative - in detail.
Stupid, because all you need to say is "The Babylon Bee is satire". If you feel the need to elaborate, mention that they like to make slight changes to real news stories and give examples.

By any professional research standards, Snopes is a joke. They used to be about as useful as Wikipedia, but the recent Babylon Bee debacle shows their full descent into laughable.

When Snopes first came about, it was a nerdy couple who researched the claims made in chain emails and other types of urban legends and myths. It had nothing to do with politics and was the go-to place to easily debunk any bullshite your aunt or whatever sent you.
It was then that they established themselves as a credible source for checking claims made online.
It wasn't until years later that they started fact-checking political stuff, and of course being leftists they started weaseling their leftist opinions into supposed judgment of facts. It was most unfortunate because the site really was reliable before this.

Ah yes, the usual erudition and nuance that I frequent the OT for.

They're not. They were left leaning, now they pretty much went full on SJW.

Snopes is a less snarky version of bullshite than the Onion.

Because they check the facts.
People here don't like it because their lord and savior, Captain Reality Show, doesn't stick to facts.

This. They’re good for everything except politics. And even then they aren’t total crap, they just seem to cherry pick a lot of stuff.
