If you think it’s bad now, what do you think it was like when Fraternities weren’t regulated as much as they are now? I can barely get a pledge to park my car without IFC breathing down our necks

The fact that people think this is the worse Fraternities have ever been is ridiculous, the hazing that went on in the 70-90’s is hell to what we had to go through.

I’ve never understood why people who are affiliated with a Greek organization have so much animosity towards people who are, makes no sense to me. The stereotypes that surround Greek Systems are in most cases far from the truth.

A lot of big time donors are Greek and shitting on your own Greek system is going to hurt their out of state enrollment,

The University of Texas has about 5% Greek student body, and they receive more donations than anyone. The University of Michigan and UC-Berkley are other examples of public state schools with relatively low %Greek population and high donations.

If your argument was true, there should be a positive correlation between % Greek and (a) donations and (b) out-of-state enrollment. For the sake of comparability, we could limit this analysis only to public state schools.

The problem for your argument is that there is no such positive correlation. If anything, there is a negative correlation (i.e., public state schools with lower % Greek population receive more donation dollars and out-of-state students).

Your argument is not only weak, it is empirically wrong.

it’s not our fault you couldn’t make the cut

But I think it depends on what school you attend, I believe Ole Miss student body is somewhere close to 40% so that’s a shite ton of people.

Why is LSU destroying their Greek System?

And the answer to your original question is simple:

1) Greek organizations are by definition exclusive. This is a direct contradiction to the modern university's commitment to inclusivity and diversity. How can they justify sponsoring such an organization?

2) Greek organizations are legal liabilities. They encourage dangerous behavior among students. Can universities prevent students from engaging in such behavior? No. Do they have to provide officially sanctioned university space for them to engage in such behavior? Also no.

The Greek system will die and universities will be better for it. I say good riddance. They serve no educational or developmental purpose whatsoever. They have always been social filtration systems, but now they are also party factories.

What does that have to do with anything?

Thanks for making point #1 for me. There is absolutely no reason a modern state university should officially sanction an inherently exclusive student organization.

Are you angry you couldn’t get into a fraternity and you want to take down a Greek System because it’ll make weirdos feel good about themselves?
