Because fat people are made fun of all the time, so I don't get the point of your OP.

You serious? There are probably hundreds - if not thousands - of articles out there about the dangers and immorality of "fat-shaming."

Look at the recent SI swimsuit editions. They are "protecting" obesity in the form of (at worst) glamorizing it or (at best) normalizing it. I'm not saying that Ashley Graham is obese, but c'mon, we all know what SI is doing. They're saying it's OK to be big.

OP, short answer. I think it's because obesity is directly related to someone's appearance. Smoking is bad for everybody, regardless of their shape and size, so there's no stigma against demonizing it.

The problem is that the lines are so blurred between attacking obesity and attacking obese people. The result is that you can't do the former without being mistaken for the latter.

False.

Due to the general socialization of medicine, it affects all of us.

Bullying people over their vices or imperfections doesn't realistically help anybody, it just makes you come off as an arrogant prick.

I get what you're saying, but we are doing it. We just do it a little discrete. It's like an inside joke.

For example, we're all laughing at the reaction of all the fatties freaking out over the recall of the swiss cake roll. I know somewhere there is a fit person responsible for this. Do you realize how damaged their soul is right now?

Topics about fat people and about trans people having a mental illness. They're obsessed because they fear they are like that.

Obesity is a national epidemic.

People are trying to normalize it.

It affects everyone because it affects your insurance premiums.

As the number of obese individuals continues to increase, the cost of their medical care will impact the rest of us more and more.

Stay woke.

I don't read Salon and Slate

I quite seriously never hear "fat shaming" anywhere but this board

I don't read Southern Living either, but that doesn't mean there aren't millions of housewives taking its advice for home decor and dinner recipes.

i'm 5'10 and I weight 306 - I don't care if you laugh at me and I don't need protecting.

that said, not all fat people affect insurance in a negative way - aside from my blood pressure being slightly high, every other thing about me is healthier than a coworker who works out religiously and MMA trains.

to each their own - but to say all fat people cause everyone 's insurance to be affected is disingenuous.

OK... I'll admit I can see your point but your high insurance rates have a LOT more to do with a broken system than an over weight person requiring more medical attention than an average size person.

Also, costing you a few dollars doesn't seem worth mentioning when compared to someone with an alcohol problem getting behind the wheel when you are, potentially, on the same road with your family in the car...
