Why is it not ok to persecute fat people the same way society does smokers/alcoholics?

Why are fat people part of a “protected class” that can’t be criticized because of their bad choices, but people have no problem calling smokers or alcoholics disgusting for their choices?

Because alcohol and second hand smoke are commonly involved with impacting people's lives who partake in neither.
If you want 3 double cheeseburgers and a diet coke for lunch everyday it really isn't hurting anyone but you and your insurance provider.
