Why Is Illegal Immigration a Thing When Visas are So Easy?

My brother runs a landscaping division -- new construction. When Trump initiated his illegal immigration crackdown, I asked my brother how it would affect him and he said, " Not at all. All my guys are legal." 200 or so guys are all here on H2-A (H2-B...my mistake) visas. They come, they work, they go home and frick off until the next season.

To get an a seasonal agricultural visa is not difficult or expensive. You just have to file the paperwork -- or your company does.

Why are we acting like it's hard for seasonal workers to do things legally?

This level of disinformation pisses me off.

ETA: Apparently it's h2-B. My bad.

Why? Because half the USA operates by feels versus logic and common sense.

Because your bother’s workers are on the books. It is more lucrative for the employee and employer to hire illegals.

Yes, my brother and his company do it the right way. That's fair, but the media would have you believe there is no H2-A or B Visa. There is no seasonal worker's visa. They would have you believe that every orange picker is an illegal immigrant. That's simply not true. There is a very legal method for Mexicans, Guatamalans, Hondurans, etc to get a Visa and work seasonal jobs. It's been in place for decades.

H2-A visas.

Your brother is committing a federal felony by lying on his H2A application if he is claiming he is doing agricultural work. Or an H2A agent is committing fraud and both the agent and your brother could be in serious trouble if caught.
Landscaping jobs do not fall under the scope of H2A visas.

He’s likely bringing them in on an H2B visa.
The issue is H2B is capped at the number of people allowed in and it’s first come first served.
H2A is not capped.

Additionally, the minimum wage of H2B is generally much higher than H2A.

It might be H2B. I could not remember the exact term he used, but I knew it began with H2. It's not my industry. Thanks for the correction.

well there's your answer. We in here arent ignorant to any of it.

Just like the media will have you believe the feds were posting a strawberry farm, and not some kind of illegal weed farm.

And they dont have a criminal record.

More than 50% of those deported so far have criminal records, per CBS News.

Of course, the way the reported it was "only half have criminal records..."

It's not as easy as you're making it out to be to obtain a work visa, although I do understand your point.

Not making excuses for anyone here illegally, but I think one of the issues is our immigration system/courts are a joke. I've talked with many people who have immigrated here legally and many of them say the process took anywhere from 5-10 years, with a lot of those taking around 7-8 years and some outliers taking far longer than that. That, along with certain politicians feeling like we should take any and all comers and you can see how many people would turn to illegal immigration.

Instead of trying to fix the issues with our immigration system, most politicians would rather keep it business as usual and continue to use it as an argument to get elected/re-elected with whatever side they're on. It's been a problem for a while now and nothing is being done to try and fix it.

I understand your point, and I don't diagree, but the majority of people I know don't want to live here. They want to earn money working hard for 3-5 months and go home and spend American dollars in Mexico for the rest of the year. They speak Spanish. They want to make money and go home. I see no problem with that philosophy.

My dad is a citizen but it cost him 10 years and about 30k. A lot of people can’t afford that.

Since time immemorial we’ve had workers come here for agricultural work. It’s only the lunatic left that suddenly believes open borders are needed or we’ll all starve. And that we need to allow their entire families here and give them DLs and the right to vote and public benefits.

Bringing up the cost is a good point as well, as I didn't even begin to address that. You're right, a lot of people can't afford that.

Yes, our path to citizenship is a convoluted mess, but that really wasn't the point of this thread. I just wanted to point out the lie that the news is trying to tell us that every seasonal worker is illegal. Most that work in established industries are legal and just want to make some money before taking the bus back home.

I didn't think it was easy. It took $7k and 3 years to get my wife over here and she has a clean background and a master's degree in a field that has severe shortages.

There are limits on the visas - not everyone can get one.

If as many illegals are crossing as we are told - the visas for the year would be gone in a day.
