Is it labor shortage? I haven’t flown since March... there seemed to be a lot more open then. I’m guessing half of shops and restaurants are closed now. Airport is full of travelers, but not much is open. I can only assume it’s lack of help. If that’s it what are all the people who used to work here doing? This sucks..

COVID gabs able bodied adults money and an excuse to stay at home.

Yes labor shortage, I fly out of ATL 2-3 times a month and some terminals are extremely limited with food services.

Why work for $10 an hour when even without the unemployment boost you can make $600 a week doing nothing? Plus food stamps and housing assistance on top of that

Pretty sure Georgia opted out of that a couple of months ago.

Alabama did in June and there are still labor shortages all over Birmingham.

Last week I was there for a connection that got in at 8 and I was starving and there wasn’t a single thing open. It’s better “during the day” (not that anything in an airport like ATL should be closed at 8 pm) but there was still plenty closed too during the day. It’s bullshite

You are allowed to freely move between terminals using the tram, to find something. You aren't stuck in C.

The personal unemployment benefits may be over, but as long as the airport can claim covid hardships they will still get federal dollars. You may notice a distinct lack of job advertisment there.

Or basically, frick you, that's why.

During the pandemic the two concessionaires which operate the shops and restaurants furloughed a ton of people. The state unemployment benefits have ended, but they are having hard time staffing back up. A combination of lack of interested employees, plus a backlog at the security office. Since many applicants are new employees they need to be fingerprinted and undergo training before they can work in the SIDA. Its a multi-week process and there have been issues with applicants just dropping out mid way when they get another, non-airport job offer.

Great point. I think I’ll miss my connection that is about to board so I can go hunt down a fricking cheeseburger in another concourse.

Did this occur since you said the labor shortages were fabricated several months ago?

Tens of thousands have left the service industry due to lockdowns and will not be coming back… unemployment/stimulus at this has little to do with it.

It’s either gonna take significant wage increases, or this is the new normal… either way it sucks for the consumer.
