I've split my time on earth almost equally between Monroe, Lafayette and New Orleans. I have affection for the whole state and think it all has redeeming qualities. But threads like these really show how insulated and basically clueless many people are in South Louisiana are when it comes to the rest of the world. Ignorance is bliss I suppose..
I like that guy but I don't think he's a real ninja.

Travel ball sounds miserable lol

The OT's version of travel ball would be absolutely miserable. But the OT's version of travel ball is packaged as all the bad aspects, and bad stereotypes and nothing else. It's mainly the opinions of people who either don't have kids, or don't have kids that play baseball. In reality travel ball has some bad aspects, as does every other thing in life that assimilates a bunch of people together. You're going to have shite head parents screaming at their respective spoiled Jaxxon's and Paisleigh's, cusssin umpires and living vicariously thru their children.

But you'll also have a ton of people who just want their kid to play baseball, because the kid loves to play baseball. And as shocking as it may sound it can be well managed by the parent and not an all encompassing lifestyle choice that dooms their kid's future. And you know what, most of the kids love it. They're out there playing and competing as teammates, not sitting home on an Xbox stuffing their face with Oreos.
It's got the same 4 people going round and round. I wanted a broader opinion

If it's got a meat in it, it's an entree.

So if the gravy has meat in it, it makes the rice the entree. Weird
Pretty big discussion about this on the
Food board. I grew up with it being considered a side dish. Whatever the meat was (roast, beef tips, pork chops, whatever) and the resulting gravy was the entree. The rice was a side dish that got gravy poured on top. It could have also been mashed potatoes instead of rice. The meal also included a couple other sides like corn, peas or beans.

When I moved to Lafayette I found that they just called it rice and gravy. No mention of the meat. What's for supper? Rice n gravy. Not beef tips. Not smothered pork chops. Rice n gravy. What says the OT?

There is no such thing as a “side of rice and gravy”

 The ONLY place in the world where it's not a side is South Louisiana. Surely you realize this.

What do you call the meat then, and how is in not the entree?

My biggest issue with this phenomenon of calling the side dish the entree is that you never really know what the actual protein. That's the most important part of the whole meal. Are we having pork steaks, roast, deer meat or nutria rat? The diner can't tell because all the menu says is "rice and gravy".

When I moved to Lafayette it took me a while to figure out what these people were taking about. Spend all day cooking a beautiful roast. What's for supper? Rice and gravy. No mention of the roast, which was by far the most important part of the meal. Want some smothered steak? Too bad. You're getting rice and gravy. Madness
Friday is indeed a nice guy. How competent of a mayor he is Is still unknown I think. But he can't be worse than Mayo.

My Laffy in-laws voted for Guillory but they seem a bit put off by him as of late. I'm not sure what he's done to have them rankled.

The Lake Charles guy seem like a good dude but as mentioned it's hard to gauge a city's progress when it keeps getting destroyed by nature.

Latoya and Broome are obviously steering their respective cities down into a flaming shite holes. Don't know much about the others. ..

Louisiana Mayor Thunder Dome:

I've divided my 52 years almost equally between NELA, Laffy and New Orleans. Wife and in-laws are from Laffy. Great folks there. Law school and career were built in Nola. Will always have a soft spot. But I can unequivocally say that Tensas parish is the greatest place in the state of Louisiana, bar none. Those who know know.
It's in Tensas/Concordia parish. Deer hunting info would be appreciated as well. We're looking to buy some property there.
