Why is beef jerky so expensive?

A pound of jerky takes 3-4 pounds of beef to make.

Because the yield is only around 40%.

supply and demand? people buy it at the high prices. i do.

Then how are banana chips and raisins so economical?

I bought a dehydrator from QVC one night when I was really drunk.

I now make my own beef jerky.

This becomes even more apparent when you buy raw beef to make your own jerky. That gets expensive quick.

I smoke my own jerky. It's a ton of work and a lot of expense. I couldn't imagine havnt to make a profit off of it
