Per pound it is one of the most expensive items in the store. Labor costs? Or is it because Big Jerky has a monopoly

Think about what it starts out as, and what that is normally priced at...

A pound of jerky takes 3-4 pounds of beef to make.

It's not made of ground chuck. Beef isn't cheap.

Part of the cost is we use the evaporate juices from these to fill cans of Febreeze.

Bananas and grapes are cheap compared to beef. Did you really not think of that?

I bought a dehydrator from QVC one night when I was really drunk.

I now make my own beef jerky.

Try the spice aisle if you want expensive items per pound.

Capitalism is a wonderful mechanism to finding out how expensive consumer goods should be priced.

You don’t think if the company that produces Slim Jim could market decent Beef Jerky for half the current price they already would have?

Their sales would more than double. Mo’ Money!

There’s not an OPEC of Beef Jerky producers.

It takes about 4lbs of beef to make 1lb of beef jerky. You also have to marinade and smoke it.

Bourgeois is the best if you like salt. Best I found is Ken's Deer Butcher Shop but he only sells it at the Central Lafourche Market.

This becomes even more apparent when you buy raw beef to make your own jerky. That gets expensive quick.

I have one too. Much cheaper and tastier than what you can get in normal stores. Plus you can experiment with flavors and make whatever you really want.
