Why Don't People With the Last Name 'Gay' Change It?

Why don't they change their name for their own benefit and the benefit of their future generations?
Even Marvin Gaye added an "e" to the end.
I know here are some Gay surnames here; what has the Gay clan accomplished that makes you proud to carry on the tradition? I'm genuinely interested.

Would be better if the homosexual contingent would quit appropriating and re-defining words like gay and queer, words that were once widely used in everyday speech that had nothing to do with homosexuality. How many terms do we really need for homosexual, one would seem sufficient?
