Yeah, some areas of Southern Europe look almost third world.

Yep

Anecdotal examples: Europeans have 1 car per family, Americans usually have 1 per adult. Europeans generally live with their parents until their 30s, Americans are gone at 18. Europeans usually have 1 working adult per family, Americans usually have 2. Most of my European friends had trouble finding jobs, and those that had jobs were paid very little (500-2k euros per month depending on the person/profession). Unemployment is incredibly high in Europe vs US. Germany is an outlier at 3.7%, but France is 9.4%, Spain 16.7%, Italy 11.1%. US is at 4.1%.

Good point.

But if their culture is so much better why do they buy our inferior movies and TV shows and music?

Nope, migrants ruined that. Thankful for Trump every day for this one reason. Just look at the rape and bombing escalations in Europe excluding Poland.

Most of Europe is committing cultural suicide via open borders. Progressivism and political correctness have doomed a once great civilization. Maybe England can save itself with Brexit but that's questionable.
Don't forget they are contracepting themselves out of existence. The European birthrates are so low, outside of Islamic families, that Europe will be Islamic in so many years without firing a shot or anything else.

The U.S. isn't that far behind, either. I mean, ask Americans of almost any demographic how many kids they would like to have, if they want them. Lord forbid we discuss any restraint on recreational sex.

Instead, the whole American debate is self-referential — pundits debating Andrew Jackson (LOL) instead of, say, what the rest of the world does today in 2017. How can a broken society grow only by looking inwards?

stopped in Sicily on a cruise this summer. The people, quality of transportation etc was no better than Mexico. I was just shocked that I was in Italy, a country that is supposed to be developed comparably to the US, and it was sketch city.

What did you expect? The further south you go in Italy the poorer it gets. It's not like this is some revelation.

ETA: And you were on a cruise. Ever stop in Belize City on a cruise? It makes you feel like you just walked into nuclear fallout.

I mean I guess I wasn't expecting much, but the point of this thread seems to be to point how much better Europe is than the US. I am giving an example of one place in which it clearly isn't. There is not one area in the US that matches the seediness of southern Italy.

It would seem that certain parts of New Orleans would beg to differ and that's just one example. Every city in the United States has sketchy areas. Would you visit South Chicago? Anacostia in DC?

I understand your point but we're not exactly Lichtenstein or Luxembourg.

One thing I will admit Europe does better than the U.S. is enjoy their personal and social life.

They just have a different mindset over there. It's not all about work work work to make more and more money. That's a commendable trait IMO.

For everything the U.S. does right, I think we put too much emphasis on work life over social and personal life.

There are many things to hate on the U.S. about, but there is no denying that being born in the U.S. instantly gives you the best standard of living in the World.

Agreed. The big advantage to me that they have is that you can hop on a train and be in a different country in a couple of hours in many cases. For instance, if you're in northern Italy you can easily weekend in France or Switzerland without any trouble. That would be the appeal to me as a US citizen. I could do a ton of exploring.

Now, that doesn't mean that I think I have a lower quality of life here in the US.
