My oldest isn’t allowed to have the phone out during school hours.. if caught the school can confiscate and go through it… yes it’s a private school and I’m fine with that… kids need to learn the idea of being told no and with clear consequences..

I don't know if I would be cool with them having the right to go through my child's phone. That may be a tad extreme.

At first blush, it does seem extreme. The fact is, though, that today’s kids are very slick with their phones. They video anything that they think may be controversial or fun to share, and sometimes what they video are major disciplinary infractions. I’m still not sure how I feel about the school having access to private phone content though. Slippery slope.

Say what? They keep it and don’t give you your personal property? I understand about having an emergency and being able to contact the school, but if I have a kid driving to school they are going to have a cell phone. And nobody is taking it for the rest of the year.

Because kids text each other and do drug deals in the bathroom. They sell weed and adderall.

A teacher has no right to take a phone and shouldn’t. Send kid to office, call parents. Just like a school isn’t keeping the phone if I pay for it. I will get it and ensure it won’t return.

You would have been looking for another school if your kid attended the school my kids went to. They could have their phone but it had to OFF during class. There was a policy of 1 time they took the phone for the day, 2nd time they took it for the rest of the school year. You signed a paper to that effect or your kids didn't go to that school,

They’re not allowed at my kids high school. Some of the teachers are Nazis about it. Others are not as long as they’re not doing anything excessive or distracting. They just have to know what the teacher allows in that particular class.

And how many phones have they actually kept all year?

I guess I forget I’m talking to Louisianan's, who have to send their kid to private schools. Cell phones weren’t allowed and got taken up at my public school, but they didn’t keep them all year. Schools who do that are authoritative retards

This place has a hard on for teachers are good. They sleep w their students, have vapes throughout the school, bullying, lowest academic standards in the last few years and advocated for kids to stay home from school and close schools during covid. I assume most ppl on here aren’t as good and involve as they say. And the teachers are douche bags, you guys watch kids al year and bitch about how it’s the parents. I don’t teach half the shite I hear in my house and I’m a degenerate. At least I care and know what’s going on. And I’m at one of the safest best public schools in my area. That’s the crazy part.

It's a simple policy. I sent my kids to private school for values reasons, not necessarily due to the school's performance they would have gone to.

quote:

Cell phones weren’t allowed and got taken up at my public school,

That's exactly what happened the first time. As was clearly explained, the second offense was the issue. The parent was also contacted after the first issue so they would know what the consequence of the next violation was. Do you think clearly explained rules and consequences are too authoritarian?

In this case yes. They’re kids. shite like this going to happen. Taking someone’s personal property all year is pretty authoritative.

I didn’t even really read this part

Just wow. You send your kids to private school to parent them so you don’t have to. Not because of the education they’re getting

It’s a major issue at my school. Administration doesn’t want to deal with backlash from the parents or handling it with students, so they’re allowed at any time to have and use their phones. We’re told to have more engaging lesson plans to keep their attention.

We’re a high achieving school, so ultimately, it’s fine. Just annoying.

I really can’t complain too much though. I’m just as addicted to the Internet and social media as they are.

What the hell are you trying to say here?

Who are they in particular? Teachers? I suspect teachers are as varied as the populations they come from.

You really have to learn how to express yourself better. It is very difficult to understand exactly what you are trying to say other than you don't think much of teachers.
