Why doesn't Amazon allow you to specify a delivery date?

As a prime member I get 1-2 day delivery, but often I will be out of town for the weekend and don't want a package sitting there for a couple days. Trying to order something and it will deliver Sat/Sunday or next Friday. I will be back Tuesday, why dont they have an option to ship via prime on Monday to deliver on Tuesday? I have to wait to order.

Ship it to a friend or do you make a habit of ordering things right before you go out of town?

Order the product 1-2 days before you want it delivered.

There is a button in the shipping options that let's you pick the day of the week if you don't want packages delivered on a weekend or specific day. It is called "choose your Amazon day"

if I'm ordering a bunch of items It's more convenient for me and less costly for them, if i just say 'hey, I'm ordering a dozen items that you will overnight in multiple packages at tremendous cost, just deliver all of it in 5 days and only rush ship what you have to"

It's there, you can choose non prime, and it will be like 4-5 days. I see it on all my orders.

I guess you can always have it shipped to one of their locker locations if you are really worried about it and they are available in your area
or have a friend go by and grab it for you
there are some really easy fixes for this, not sure why you think amazon is the problem here

Do you not have a smart phone or laptop? I'm confused how you are confused by this problem. Don't order shite online when you know you are going out of town.
