Exactly. By his "logic" we should outlaw sober driving.

The same reason drunk driving is still a problem and especially in Louisiana. Inconsiderate, selfish assholes will always exist.

Driving at ,08 is far different than .15. I'll bet most people have driven buzzed at some point with drink, prescription and illegal drugs

I dont think a low buzz is a big deal. MADD ran an effective PR campaign

2 general points

1. "drunk" is very subjective and individualized, especially in terms of impact on driving ability

2. if nothing bad happened, then nothing bad happened. if you want to make the "potential" argument, then i hope you want to criminalize texting, talking on cell phones while driving, and all sorts of other behaviors

1 week in prison would extinguish that behavior for most

pretty sure texting while driving is much more dangerous than DWIs

why aren't we making that a serious misdemeanor like DWIs? min year probation, community service, a scarlet letter, etc

I don't drink. I am the Ayatollah of Drvin' So-buh. People who drive drunk should suffer greatly for their crime.

I'd like to see "you just texted $10,000" billboards like they have for DUIs. Those billboards basically admit DUIs are just money grabs and not about safety.

I bought a BACtrack breathalyzer which i keep in my vehicle. I rarely take it out now but it was a useful tool at first to understand my metabolism of alcohol and the many factors at play - rate of consumption, food in stomach slowing absorption, body mass, etc. I strongly disagree with people who think buzzed driving is drunk driving or that any alcohol (< 0.08) in a driver's system is too much. Or that cracking open a beer while driving is the same as drunk driving. I sympathize if you have a loved one that was killed by a drunk driver but anecdotes and emotional arguments shouldn't be used to shape public policy.

Even with the liberal alcohol culture in LA I doubt many posters genuinely condone driving drunk. But I think most of ya'll would agree that distracted driving is more dangerous than driving at 0.07 and that a good portion of people driving at 0.07 are still better drivers than the average driver at 0.00.

Drunk drivers should be out in jail for a long time. My father was killed by a drunk driver.
