Well I could think of 237 vacations I'd rather take than a Disney cruise so I doubt I ever find out

The people claiming cruises are trashy are the same people who spend their vacations in Destin and take family portraits in khakis and white t-shirts at the beach.

I'll take any cruise any time any boat.

I've learned most trashy people, other than Alabama fans, don't judge. Just don't get between them and the buffet or you'll draw back a nub.

ETA: If you don't have a khaki & white family beach portrait, you are doing it wrong.

Trashy people don't bother me, I do plenty of trashy stuff myself. I just don't want to get on a boat with a couple thousand strangers. Plenty of people do want to do that and it's great, I'm not trying to stop them

7 day NCL out of New Orleans is a pretty good vacation. Ports are Cozumel, Belize City, Belize; Roatan, Honduras: and Costa Maya (Mahahual) Mexico. Good diving in all of them, and fun stuff for the kids to do. We take our kids out of school and go in January. There are lots of older couples and it's pretty laid back.

I've done the fly and stay vacations and the cruise vacations, and with a family and small kids, it's just hard to beat the 7 day NCL's. I'm not an OT baller though.

Who wants to be stuck with these degenerates for a 5 days?

I don't want to sleep on the same bed this guy slept on nor do I want to touch any part of the ship he touched.

We cruised the Med on Royal Carribean in May and it was really nice. Though I'm sure the price point of getting to Europe Cuts out a lot of people.

I will say the average age was about 55+ so we felt a little out of place sometimes.

That's when the alcohol you bring on board becomes important, making it easier to make hot blonde cruise friends.

But yep. There comes a point when being trapped by trashiness is overwhelming.

However I'll take being on the water vs landlocked every time.

Cause they equate all cruise lines to Carnival, and that isn't close to true.

I like Carnival better than Norwegian.

Carnival is somewhat trashy, but again, not always as trashy as people here think. I mean, if you went on a 3 day cruise out of NOLA, then it was probably every bit as trashy as the OT would have you believe.

Two day booze cruises are the trashiest, but they are kinda fun. Good cheap weekend getaway.

Legal:
A ship at sea during a international cruise route obviously goes into international waters and then into foreign jurisdictions. Your passport is locked (hopefully) in the purser's safe on a cruise ship. When/if you leave the cruise ship without your passport, bad things can happen and if they do happen to you, it is then further complicated. Bad things can and do also happen onboard the vessel and one's rights are limited. While this is also true aboard an aircraft, the exposure time window is much smaller and I trust the usually former U.S. military flight crew on a Delta/AA jet more than Captain Zehahoukis from a cruise line.

No one even asks to see your passport until you get to Customs in the US.

I've been on 6 cruises (5 NCL & 1 RCCL) all were 7 days and have never seen anything close to that.

Yeah, when I start seeing crap like that, I won't be going back.

It wasn't the free cheeseburgers. It was the line jumpers where 1 guest held the line for the 20+ family members. frick that.

This is how I feel as well. Really the only type of cruise I have any desire to go on is an Alaskan Cruise, and maybe a Mediterranean Cruise. Tropical Cruises just seem awful. When I'm on vacation in the tropics, I want to just relax the whole time and not have to worry about schedules.

Went on a 7 day Western Mediteranean last year on the Norwegian Epic. I didn't see anything like that, but i wasn't $399 pp either.

Understood.

That is when things go right. Let something go awry while you are ashore and the ship sails away with your documentation.

I won't convince folks who like cruise travel otherwise, they won't convince me to travel via the Carnivals of the seas.

The risk isn't worth the reward to me of cruise travel as I understand it. But I was only a professional mariner for over a decade. I don't know much about the technicals of such things.
