Why does marijuana stink so bad now?

I was a teen in the 80's and was possibly around a lot of recreational weed smoking.
The smell of weed today is definitely NOT the same as back then.
What happened? Is the only weed available nowadays grown somewhere in a nuclear waste site shite ditch?

Did a volunteer trash/litter pickup several weeks ago on Florida Blvd. here in Baton Rouge.
Several weed enthusiasts passed in their cars sharing the aroma of their weed.
Smelled like someone was grilling a Skunk.
