Why does Fox have such a bad HD signal?

CBS and ESPN come in like magic. Beautiful displays. Fox looks like a Religion Network. Why?!

It's worse than that for me. It's so choppy, it's like listening to a bad AM station.

Agreed. Nothing screams we are stuck in 1998 quite like Fox and their gimmicks.

The Fox station in Lafayette is showing the local 5pm news instead of the halftime show.

Fox is notorious for using high compression in their upline. It has been this way since the dawn of HD.

It has always been noticeable on a large display but as compression in the downlines has been reduced over the years Fox stands out like a sore thumb.

You could pay for it like most people do and have a clear signal. Before you answer I’m not going to pay for something that I can get for free just think through the logic of your response.

I’ve always been told is the BR fox affiliate who’s fricking the signal up.

Because they want you to finally get tired of it, give in and buy another NFL package. That’s my theory.

^ this guy...

Sometimes you can get a better picture from Red Zone or Sunday Ticket because they get their feed higher up in the chain. But anything that has been run through the Fox network pipeline will be subpar. Now if you have a small display and/or you need your glasses prescription changed it may look the same to you.

Arguably the best signal you can get for a Fox affiliate is OTA since it skips any of the compression used in getting it up and down from the affiliate to your cable/sat/streaming service and to you. Over the years bandwidth has gotten cheaper and that is less of an issue. Go to any A/V or home theater forum and you will see the issue discussed.

Surprised Disney didn’t buy that and try and market it somehow.

Anyway Fox doesn’t have much in house anymore to come up with something new. In today’s media conglomerate world the Murdochs have to be waiting for someone to buy Fox as well. They didn’t even jump in to buy back regionals when bids went lower than expected when justice forced ESPN to sell them.

Not the case. You can go anywhere in the country and see the same thing. Our primary house is states away and you see the same issues. Channel 44 isn't what I would consider great on the downline side but the primary issues are higher up in the Fox pipeline. I always assumed it is because they are broadcasting so many channels at the corporate level. Bandwidth while cheaper still isn't free.
