Poor people do not pay taxes. No money in the coffers. Every inner city in America is suffering the same fate.

Would be sweet if Exxon refinery made a golf course out of the buffer zone they've acquired. Would be a good use of the space since it's not populated at night during an emergency evac.

You either don't know golf or you're just one of the local self-loathers.

I know golf quite well; I play 3 to 4 times a week at both Huntington and Querbes. I'm not self-loathing in anything, public golf here isn't good. The greens at Querbes and Huntington aren't good, Querbes is better than Huntington right now and Huntington's greens are in shambles, it's a shame because they were great last year,, many of the fairways are lacking grass and watering as they are hard as a rock and the cart paths are terrible. Stonebridge isn't worth $80 to play, Olde Oakes is just a complete mess. Played Northwood for the first time in a while and it's getting better but needs work and is a little bit of a drive, the same goes for Cooked Hollow. Now, tell me buddy, what did I miss and tell me how good public golf here in Shreveport is good.

Lack of interest. In the last 15 years at least 2 have closed - one on sherwood and one on Old Hammond that I know of.

Other than that you have at least 12 within 12 miles of downtown - 3 are private. Plus 2 high end driving ranges and an indoor 9 hole.

Anyone know how the Shenandoah golf course was? When I was a young, I used to live near the area. Used to play alot of basketball at Shenandoah middle school but never played golf back then

I loved Shenandoah CC and was a member for many years. A couple of things lead to its downfall.
1. Very few of the residents of Shenandoah subdivision actually were members. If I remember correctly, there were over 200 homes on the course but less than 10% were members.
2. Toward the end, the owner was taking a lot of cash out of the business. It was his course so he was entitled to do what he wanted, but it couldn’t be sustained.
It was a nice course to play and I miss it.

Why should they pay for basketball courts?

Tremendous maintenance of basketball courts. Those slabs of concrete only have one use too.

"Public course" is not necessarily "municipal" course.

Didn’t they also essentially close Shenandoah over night? It was somewhat secretive. We had a family friend who had just bought a nice little home to retire on that was on the course and a year later their backyard was another house in the development. Caught everyone by surprise from what I recall.
