Austin is a cesspool, do not come here. There are street fights in every neighborhood, stay far away!

Really? Interesting. Not my experience at all. I didn’t notice it being unusually friendly or unfriendly actually.

To be honest, the least friendliest people I’ve ever encountered in the US were small town people in North Texas. Worked about 6 weeks down there in places like Pilot Point, Gainesville, Whitesboro, Aubrey, etc. Wow! Not friendly at all and the complete opposite of liberals. Just a cultural thing in that region.

Unfortunately, this is what it has turned into. North of the city limits it's still good. But the closer you get to downtown the worse it gets. I absolutely despise south Austin and do everything I can to avoid going there for work. The people are truly miserable and miserable to deal with.

Interesting side note. Austin has more Sonics than any other city in America per square mile.

Because the homeless shelter is right off 6th St.

I don't know how it is now because I avoid the area, but that shelter used to not be a problem at all.
Several years ago I had a 1 week span where I filed for a divorce, my dad died, and an uncle diagnosed with terminal cancer. I went downtown the following weekend and let the stress out. I parked in the parking lot next to the shelter. Anyway, I over indulged in a major way so I crawled up in the passenger seat of my truck and slept there. Woke up about 9am and drove home. Didn't have a single problem. No way I'd do that now, but we also have Uber now too.

It’s always people who don’t live in an area that talk about how awful it is. You see some political signs, someone doesn’t wave at you and then you label it a liberal hell hole of miserable people

Austin is full of friendly people.
