Xander’s

When my daughter was in daycare, she told us she had a new friend.

We asked what his name was and she said Xander. I was thinking what kind of name is this, so I ask Alexander?" She says no, Xander! My wife asks Zavier, my daughter yells no, Xander. We go back and forth, trying to figure out his name, thinking she was mispronouncing the name, and every time she would get madder and madder, yelling "No, Xander!!!!"

If she knew how to curse, she would have said, "Look motherfrickers, his name is Xander!"

We learn the next day his name was actually Xander. To this day, 10+ years later, every time we hear the name Xander, we go "No, Xander!"

It’s almost always been the case.

Back before the 1940s, the old Latin and Greek names like Cassius, Lucius, Socrates, Aristotle, Julius, Augustus, Cicero, Etc were nearly the exclusive domain of Black Americans. It was a trend.

Then the Latino and Italian names became popular amongst black America for some time.

Then came this newest trend.

All the while, many still had normal names like George, Henry, etc.

Naw just kidding, I've never met a white Jamarcus.

I have a white friend named Reginald. I always kid with him that he was supposed to be black.

There was a funny SNL skit where the black teacher went into a white school and mispronounced the white kid's names.

A-A-Ron (Aaron)

Juh Rod (Jared)

Those are the two coming to mind. Wish I could find the skit. Laughed my arse off.

Found it.

LINK

Greatness.

Why are names like Leroy, Latoya, Lakeshia, Jamarcus, JaMichael, and Tyrone, mostly associated with black folk?

Tyrone is actually an Irish name. Not sure how it eventually made it into the black folk rotation.
