Why do we assume that names are race specific?

Why are names like Xander, William, Tyler, Jayden, and Jace, mostly associated with with the white folk?

Why are names like Leroy, Latoya, Lakeshia, Jamarcus, JaMichael, and Tyrone, mostly associated with black folk?

Is this something that is new, or was this going on 60-70 years ago? Is it that "white" people are sticking to "white names" and "black" people are sticking to "black names?"

For instance, when a name (for example - Shareeka Williams) is called out over an intercom or on TV and we do not see a face - one would automatically assume that this would be a black woman. Also, if Barbara Smith is called out in the same situation, most would assume it is a white woman. Weird.

Not really.

Also, I wouldn't just assume that someone named William, Tyler, or Jayden was white. I can easily think of black people with those names.

It’s not a stereotype if it’s just...true. Would you not assume most Nguyens are Asian?

Sure it is. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Nice. Way to assume gender.

Do you believe there are zero cultural differences among different ethnic groups?

Yep. When I see a name spelled La-ia and told it's pronounced Ladashia because the - don't be silent. I pretty much know what race owns that name.

But then again, the Saints have Taysom Hill at backup QB and he's a big ol' white boy.

Is this a real question? Also, how many white Xander’s and Jayden’s do you know?

I'm not talking cultural. I'm talking about names, specifically. I don't remember many names in history books about black folk that are similar to today's names. Seems the "La" and "Le" and similar prefixes to names started recently, or no?

Really? That’s weird to you? How many Shareekas do you know that are white?

You’ve never actually seen this in real life.

My kids' pediatrician is named Jamar. He was recommended to us by a family member.

I was surprised as hell the first time I met him when a white dude walked through the door
