I think most people believe aliens exist. The big debate is to what extent and have they been here before.
There is a lot of evidence of aliens in the ancient world, with the mystery to me being where they went and why did they apparently leave.

Such precise workmanship on a massive scale would have been nearly impossible without modern tools and machines, yet most of the ruins are more than 1,000 years old. if they ever admitted aliens were real, then all religions would be nullified and crime would go ballistic which is why religion was even so important in the first place. The high priests were the most educated guys in town and knew they needed the fear of eternity in hell to scare people into behaving.

Why would they stay?
Humans have an inherent desire to kill or enslave anything that's different. I'm sure we constantly tried to kill them and they got tired of it and left. Just like God did.
