I go 80 mph in the left lane in Houston interstates past 8 pm. If you're tailgating me while I'm going 80 mph on a 65 mph speed limit, I'm not getting the frick out of the way, you're just going way too fast.

I get it, but i've never understood why if there's a speed limit, there's a need to pass. if you're in the left lane doing the speed limit and someone is in the right doing the speed limit, what's the issue?

I never cruise the left lane, always get over, but I'm still confused by it.

If you’re still using a chauffeur and cars to get around, you’re not the level of OT baller that you think you are.

I grew up driving in Montana, so I am perfectly comfortable going 80 on the interstate. If I run up on someone camping in the left lane, I give them a solid 5 seconds to wake up and get over, then I pass on the right if it's sensible to do so.

Passed a blue Ram dawdling in the left lane on an empty stretch of I-10 near BSL last Sunday going about 72 mph. Me and about 10 other vehicles, including a semi, passed him before he either got the hint or made his exit. Sometimes the behavior has to be chalked up to pure stubbornness.

Because 70 in one car can be slightly slower or faster than 70 in another car. And not everyone goes exactly the speed limit.

If this is the case, you are blocking both lanes and you should be in the right lane. It's also extremely dangerous to ride next to another car. It only takes a split second for one of you to veer and cause a major pileup. I see the braindead riding next to semi trucks or passing them very slowly all the time. They are gambling with death.

That's not your determination to make. You still have to move to the right lane when there is room regardless of what the other driver is doing. If you don't move over, you are breaking the law. If you are actively passing another car, then you are correct. If you aren't, you're causing the roadway to be more dangerous.

I support the death penalty for left lane campers.

And the three lanes of I-10 between Nola and Slidell has the absolute worst offenders. Constant dumbshits lined up behind one another doing 70 in the left lane when the center and right two lanes are totally open.

Have you seen baby names these days? People who give their kid a name like Paxtyn are drivers today.

Before my daily drive from work in Luling to home in Metry, I have a take a moment to steel my resolve. Because I know the moment I cross that Luling Bridge, traffic in the left lane will be backed up 100 cars deep because of some dipshit driving slow in the left lane. Usually an 18 wheeler going 0.00001 mph faster than the 18 wheeler its trying to pass.

Ever drive in Wisconsin and Indiana? Rt 31 in Illinois with Hispanic and Filipino drivers? Ever get to drive with snowbirds in AZ and FL? I’d give up my 401k to have the car from the spy hunter video game.

I find it amusing that our elected officials have functionally made it illegal to drive in the left lane, yet no one seems to notice or care that it’s created a paradigm in which the government can stop and interrogate you anytime it wants to.

I actually agree with you on this point. I bring this issue up just due to the danger involved in it. Left lane driving causes at least 10% of all Interstate accidents. But government being assholes, yeah, that's typical. What really needs to happen is the left lane speed limit should be 5 MPH faster than the right lane.

Now do the 18 wheelers that take miles to pass each other with a 2mph difference in speed creating a rolling roadblock that backs up traffic all to hell

I found it particularly galling when legislation was proposed this session to make it illegal to drive slower than the speed limit in the left lane. So when you take into consideration speed limits and passing laws already on the books, the only way to legally drive in the left lane is to drive exactly the speed limit, no more no less, but only when there are cars on the road driving slower than the speed limit. Because the moment you have a right lane driver driving exactly the speed limit, the left lane is utterly illegal to use

There is a special place in hell for semis that pass another semi by going only a half a mile faster. Looking at you I24

When the state of Alabama can maintain an interstate to where the right lane isn't filled with potholes, grooves, and patchwork, I'll drive in the right lane. Until then, I stay left unless someone is coming up behind me and then I will move over to let them pass.

And tell the state to keep their deer off the road sides at night.

Think about how stupid you are. Imagine having 3 meetings and showing up 30 minutes early to all of them. You wasted 1.5 hours of your life being early. Show up on time or a few minutes early. 30 minutes early is dumb.

This is bad advice. Just like insurance, you don’t leave early because everything will go according to plan.

I have spent enough time on the highways and interstates around this country to say confidently that people driving the speed limits are NEVER held up by slower traffic in the left lanes. It ALWAYS people driving excessively fast and above the speed limit that are flashing their lights and blowing their horns whole screaming at cars around them.

Exactly..my adaptive cruise control stays a certain distance from the car in front of me but they freak out if thee is any gap like it will make a difference
