Why do schools have Pass / Fail grades

I finally get confirmation on my grades. I am still graduating but I am some-what discontent. My final grade for the project was a "P". Spoke to my advisor and Dean about it, since I though the grades were weighted.
Apparently, SUBR policy is that grad projects/thesis only pass or fail. They do not receive weight like standard classes. This is a recent change in policy for the past few years, according to my advisor.
I was really looking forward to the boost in GPA too.
ETA: I do not know if it is the norm for grad school project/thesis to get grades or not. If this pail/fail business is normal, I apologize since I did not know.
And for the record, yes this was presented in front of a panel of 3 EE professors. Of course I had to make a demonstration as well.

Typically because the class is too worthless even by today's standards to merit giving a boost in GPA.

Shouldn't be necessary for a PE teacher application

Who waits until the end of the semester to find out how the grading works?

Presumably everyone is discussing a different topic, so it's probably hard to weigh one paper against another

You waited until the end of the semester to figure out how the grading works? Do you not get a syllabus at subr? You weren't concerned or curious over the course of the entire semester how you would be graded?
This seems like a made up topic to try and troll people on southern as usual.

You go to Southern? I had no idea.

What are you studying at Southern?

They never mentioned it. It was not on the syllabus (no syllabus given). Usually courses with P/F grades are listed in the handbook. However, this course was not listed as P/F.
Today, I was told that originally the class had a real grade, but a few years ago they made changes in the policy since (it was too subjective)...whatever.

I wish that I was joking. But no MNCBABY, they NEVER told me or anyone else in the graduate school how they go about the grading process. I did actually inquire about it, but apparently I should have asked the dean not my advisor.

Yes. At least until I get a solid job. Once I finally get a few years under my belt in a related position, I will not really care about GPA.

you might be the most well known poster with less than 1000 posts.
Well known does not necessarily equal popular
