Probably because being poor sucks. And lack of education, crappy environment, and being around other poor and trashy people.

Being poor is all most of them know so it's not a big deal to them.
It's not like someone from a home where dad is an engineer and mom's a teacher, living in a nice 3,500 sqft house, falling on hard times. That person will do a lot to get out of that situation.

Eh. Generally speaking, most people in poverty were born into poverty. Genetics and environmental factors determine their ability to get out of poverty and both of those factors are beyond their control.

1) It's all they know - their parents, grandparents, etc all did it

Poor people lack the ability to delay gratification. That’s why poor people live paycheck to paycheck at best. Every penny they make gets spent. You don’t get rich spending every dime of every paycheck, and if you’re doing that it’s hard to save up and buy something nice.

Free college, free libraries with internet access, government assistance for everything, Medicaid for single mothers, free healthcare, free vocational school tuition ......if you are able bodied and cannot provide for yourself in this country it’s because you made a choice not to.
