Why do people who live vicariously through others

Fans do it. Parents damn sure do it. I never have understood why people do that. There are fans who really get into their team or a player. Gumps are the worst. Why should someone living in a doublewide in Alabama be a bigger winner than same setup in Arkansas? If you are a fatty and have a beauty queen 8 year old, how does that make you more attractive? If you were cut from the varsity football squad but your 5th grader is city champ, does that validate your belief that it was political? I just don't get the whole vicariously living through others thing.

I live vicariously through my son because I want him to have fun that I didn't have or missed out on.
Im not talking about making him do things that I never did or couldn't do. I'm talking about making damn sure my son doesn't go without or making sure he gets to experience things I didn't. It's fun as shite to see him enjoy life and it it means I'm living vicariously through him then so be it.

Okay. But what if your son is different than you? What if he would have really gotten more joy from doing something else? I see that a lot. I try to let my kids find their own way, like I did. I never encouraged them to play a sport but if they wanted to play I insisted they not quit. But they do the things they want to do. They live their life. I already had a turn.

I have a friend who takes things really personal. Like Tom Brady and deflate gate really pissed him off, and Manziel pisses him off, etc. Like it's serious shite or something that affects his life.
