have a cousin that is "into" watches. Its the most boring shite having to listen to him talk about his recent acquisition and the next one he's thinking about "investing" in.

I hate watches for this reason alone.
now do bourbon or people into IPAs.

It's called disposable income. What anyone chooses to spend it on is up to them. Some take trips, some buy watches, others pay coaches not to coach, etc. Everyone spends money on something someone else would find absurd. Such is life.

Okay? A Rolex is something I can pass down to my son and it will last forever if properly maintained. A nice timepiece completes the look of a well put together man.

And in the end none of it matters. If you accumulate and leave a to. Of money, there is an incredibly high chance that your children or their children will blow it on things you find absurd and they won’t even think about what it took for you to earn it.

Cause they are awesome little machines we can use every day! Especially mechanical ones (i.e. no battery or computers for the laypeople).

Personal items that are hand built by Swiss elves who worked their way up and out of Santa's workshop!

If I bought an expensive watch I would probably lose it within a month. I swear I could lose my arse with a bell attached to it.

but the Rolex is a piece of jewelry and a pretty nice one.

I could understand paying for a nice watch. They really are lovely pieces of jewelry.

I stare at screens all day. 3 monitors in my office, a TV, and my phone. Stimulation everywhere.

Look down, and this small, incredibly well crafted mechanical thing keeping within 0.25s/day of atomic time. It will keep this time for the next 10-20 years as long as it's worn before it needs servicing, then it will keep the accurate time again.

It will one day live on my kids wrist.

I hope you enjoy your $75,000 bass boat though.

It's basically a status symbol piece of jewelry that's socially acceptable for a straight white baw.

Not something I choose to spend on, but if someone else wants to, have at it.

Sort of like an obnoxiously expensive vehicle that serves no practical purpose over one half the cost.

My family collects Rolex’s and a few of them have appreciated in value quite nicely. I don’t love my aging parents wearing them in public though.

This an AI troll? Cause trolls in the past were original, sometimes clever and worthy of a discussion or two.

ok I'm a huge Rolex fan but you may want to pump the brakes a little on that. you're lucky if you're getting +-1 second a day on a mechanical movement on even the best maintained watches.

Quartz is a different story.
