Because the alternative is dying which is also not ideal.

I don’t
If I make it to 80 it will be decision time
I do not have any desire to be frail or unable to live an active life

I assume you dont have children.
If you did, you would understand why people want to live longer.
There frequently comes a point where your relationship with your children becomes a burden rather than a blessing. We all like to think of ourselevs as leading normal, happy, healthy lives until one night when we suddenly die in our sleep.
But that's generally not how it works. You get old, sick, weak and unable to perform routine tasks. You run out of money. Your children now feel an obligation to help support and "parent" you the same way they did for you as a child. But there's a future for a child and none for a broken down old man who needs to be shuffled back and forth to doctors and have all of his affairs managed.

Our current medical system can keep people barely alive for years and years. With no quality of life, little mobility, just existing, often morbidly obese lying in their own pee and poop of hours.
When I get to that point, I'm going to hit the self checkout lane.

Haha man im guessing youve made enemies from prior posts based on the replies… i tend to agree with your sentiment. People would buy refrigerator handle hand warmers if it meant extending their life by a week. I already told my wife im not getting chemo if i get cancer.. if its my time its my time

68.4% of the world doesn’t think you are going there, and you don’t think 68.4% of the world is going there.
What’s wrong with not being in a rush to find out who is right?

Because when you are living the Good Life, you don't want it to end...

I don’t understand from either the religious or atheistic viewpoints. Either a crown or oblivion awaits you. Better than here for many.

It’s oblivion, exactly like the oblivion before you gained consciousness. Life on earth is a random occurrence in which its complexity became great enough that intelligence arose, allowing the pondering of existence.

The same reasons people don’t want to die

They want to watch kids/grandkids grow up

Some of you know my daughter and I were diagnosed with cancer days apart in May, her Stage 4 breast cancer, me Stage 1-2 pancreatic cancer. Both very lethal. We have a chance but I also know the odds.
Until you’re faced with your or a loved one’s imminent death you don’t know what you’ll do. In my case, after the initial shock and fear the fight mechanism kicked in and I developed a fierce desire to beat this motherfricker and live.
I’m 60. I want to see my grandchildren grow up. I have a bucket list. I want to shoot a British Columbia whitetail, an Oregon mulie, maybe a Colorado bighorn. I want to learn to fly fish. I want to hike the Grand Canyon to Phantom Ranch and back and swim in the Colorado with my kids or grandkids like I did with my dad when I was 14. Should have already done that. I want that cabin in the Smoky Mountains I’ve dreamed about. I have a ways to go on my financial goals and legacy. The list is long.
I know this earth is not my home. The letter of James says our life is like a vapor that appears for a little while then vanishes. But I want to make the most of it while I’m here.
Staring death in the face makes you think about a lot of things.

Because if you believe in God you want to live because he still has a purpose for you to be here! Life's great @ 72yo, I can Garden, cook, eat, read books (usually 2-6 a week) & educate myself in way's I never could while working fulltime!

Cool, I just read some of these verses from Paul. You still don’t hear Christians echoing the sentiment. Like praying for God to take them, or make them fruitful.
Always said it was logical for Christians to want their children to die early enough to where God would grant them into heaven as many believe, especially in this world where it’s more likely than ever that they will become atheist.
There are some atheist who think there is an afterlife FWIW

Well I aint afraid of dying
It's the thought of being dead
I wanna go on being me
Once the eulogy is read
For me I actually do not fear death. I do fear that those who love me will hurt for the loss and may need me. For me, I do fear losing my quality of life and do not want to be remembered as an shriveled hull wearing a diaper and eating baby food.
