Why do people still visit New Orleans when the city is getting worse?

All I ever read about New Orleans on OT is the latest shooting that occurred, how poor it is, how inept the NOPD is, and how shitty of a mayor Latoya is.

If it's so shitty, why does it keep drawing in tourist crowds? Do the people who visit from out-of-state have no idea how bad the crime is and how it's spilling into the affluent areas? Last week I had a connecting flight that got cancelled in New Orleans so I had to spend the night at a nearby hotel. I was blown away by the amount of out-of-state tourists, many of whom looked like they were from the CA and NY. Are these people super oblivious to how bad New Orleans has gotten?

Sackless individuals.

Have been once this year. Likely won’t be back anytime soon

Because they think it’s still full of great jazz bars and restaurants, it used to be but the poverty that has always surrounded NO has grown dramatically over the last couple of decades. Katrina did the city no favors

Your first mistake is thinking you’re getting rational advice here.

New Orleans has millions of people who visit yearly and have a great time. It’s a wonderful city to visit.

Does the city have plenty issues? For sure, which the OT focuses on, but it’s still one of my favorite places to spend time.

ETA: Latoya’s attitude does the city no favors. When she’s gone a lot of the venom that the city gets will begin to fade IMO.

Why do people still take fitness advice from a pathological liar who looks like rotting garbage and has barely better than average strength after nearly 3 decades of “training”?

The world may never know.

Yes. Have a few friends in NJ/NY that want to go down for the giants saints game this fall. Told them I'd think about it

I love going to the French Market, concerts, or certain bars and restaurants, I just go during the day. I wouldn't go down Bourbon at night, haven't in many years.

Nola is a fun place to visit, but not a good place to live.

According to the OT, Nola is the only city with music, good restaurants and culcha.

We stayed at the four seasons two weekends ago for a wedding, and went to Pat Os after the reception. It was dead. An in and out trip is fine.

Most people that travel there have no concept of the crime. The city is very much living off of a pre-Katrina reputation.

That’s the equivalent of getting all your info about LSU Football from an Alabama fan. Or asking a liberal their opinion about Donald Trump.

Yeah New Orleans is a dump, but I wouldn’t base my entire opinion of the city off of what you read here
