why Louisianans put up with horrible, 6-month-long summers.

Because the remainder of the year is gorgeous. Although, there are the idiots that walk outside in a fleece and bitch the one week a year we get freezing weather.

Yall have awful summers, flooding, and hurricanes. You're asking why people live elsewhere?

I have no idea what that has to do with the irony of someone from Louisiana asking why people live elsewhere because of the climate or natural disasters

I'm always amazed by the ignorance exhibited in these "CA sucks" type threads. The OP is correct that mudslides often follow wildfires and that they exacerbate the intial problem. It's similar to the infrastructure disruptions that follow major hurricanes - extended extended power outages, water and gas servive interruptions, road and bridge closures, fuel shortages and general social upheaval.

However, I suspect that the majority of the TD posters who consistently talk shite about CA have probably never lived in CA and possibly never even set foot in CA. It's not a perfect place - not that anywhere it - but it's not as bad as some of you think it is.

There must be a reason that close to 40 million people live there, and it's not because they are all sucking on the welfare teat.

I visited Cali for the first time this past summer. It was 96 with 90% humidity here and it was 75 during the day and 55 at night out there with very little humidity. I flew in and flew out in less than 12 hours but what I saw was beautiful. All the Mexicans was as big of a reason for me to not consider it as much as the politics. I felt like the only white person for miles and miles and I was not in a major city.

I lived there for graduate school (Monterey) and fell in love with coastal California. I don’t care at all for inland and east through Nevada/Arizona/NM

The politics shite is so overblown. If I ever talk politics, we either agree or disagree, and it's done. We can still break bread.

People think California politics, and they think of Berkeley in the 60's.

It ain't really like that. Yes, the big cities are progressive. We're used to Asians and Mexicans, and appreciate their food and culture. What's so terrible about broadening you horizons?

By the way, If you have never been to a Mexican wedding, you haven't lived yet. They treat you like family, get you drunk on Modelos and tequila, and everything is love.

Funny you mention the weddings. The hotel that I stayed at had a banquet hall with a wedding going on the night I was there. They were rolling in and out of the restaurant/bar that I was eating at all night. I’ll take me whatever trash weddings over that any day.

The good citizens are dwindling in number and the bad citizens are increasing in number, probably about fourfold. The only area that's seeing the positive gain of new citizens is in the farming industry.

California used to be the best place to live in the entire world. The question now should be - why would people want to live in California in the future?

Not going out on much of a limb on this one.

The majority of the country would say “why do people live in Louisiana?” and the typical answer here is “muh hunting and fishing.”

But for some reason it astounds these same people that there might be some benefit to living in California.
