You don't have to shovel snow ever.

Been living in FL for 37 years now, with the exception of going away to college for 3 years. Weather's nice, city is far from boring, lots of stuff to do; but somedays I feel I need to move on to live somewhere else. The beach scene is getting pretty old for me.

Florida is the shite in winter. Not many places in the country can beat it during that time of the year. You are right about summer though. You will not find me sweating on a beach, that shite sucks. I'll take the 50-70° summers Seattle offers.

I got tired of there being only one season, I like to go back for visits but don't see living there full time again

I can't speak for everyone but I can tell you some of the reasons I enjoy it.
On saturday we took the boat out ~35 miles and caught a 7 man limit of Red Snapper. We cleaned the fish at the marina, and then walked a few filets over to the restaurant for someone else to cook while we sipped ice cold beer. On Sunday I rode my bike to the end of the road and fished for redfish and speckled trout. On Monday we all got together and fried some of the red snapper, and then we all took a gallon bag of filets home. Next weekend we'll probably take the boat to the island, and then the following weekend we'll fish again. Winter lasts about 6 weeks.
I will agree that "going to the beach" does suck. The whole parking and lugging a bunch of shite down the sand to sit on the beach is not my idea of a good time, but loading up the boat and going to the island is awesome.
I'm an easy drive from New Orleans, Atlanta, Tampa, and Orlando. When July and August rolls around we'll start heading to the springs.
Would I enjoy living in Ocala or Gainesville? Probably not, but living about 1/4 of a mile from the saltwater- that I do enjoy

That little piece of beach looks quiet, peaceful and surrounded by things that can eat you

You said you grew up in Louisiana, lived in Texas for 40 years, and Florida for 20. Are you 100 years old or a liar?

Depends on where you go, but yes... it has gotten out of hand. We go because we've always gone. It's warm pretty much all year, and they've got a shite ton of stuff to do. Beaches, fishing, theme parks, rockets, you name it.
I can honestly see going to Florida being another one of the things that "changes" in my lifetime. Orlando might as well be San Juan.
Beaches are being taken over more and more by groups that aren't family friendly.
I can see mountain vacations making a surge, we are looking into it. We own property in Florida and we probably spend a month per year in the state. I'm optimistic that where that is won't be ruined in my lifetime.

That sounds about perfect.
What area are you in?

Yeah it rains nearly every day in the winter but on the flip side its sunny most days in the summer. The south deals with culture we deal with liberals, every area has its own tradeoffs. I'll take the natural beauty and recreation activities the PNW offers

If it were not for the culture this state has, no one would ever give a frick about our state. We would be yet another backwater shithole, we still are one but with fleur des lys.
