Something just kinda struck me funny at the gym tonight. There was a dude there in good shape moving around to different stations, like any sane/rational person. And then randomly, he starts speed hopping down the hallway on one foot for about 100 feet. Dude was erratic and disruptive. I noticed him do this about 3 more times.

I got tho thinking, “What is this guy trying to get out of this. Hopping on one foot. Sure, that can be useful at times. But there should be s hell of a lot better ways of getting in shape then speed hopping on one foot short distances.

And I just got to thinking about the CrossFit fad and all these people doing weird workouts. Why? I understand if you’re s professional athlete and/or want to occasionally spice things up.

But I see normal people all the time doing the weirdest shite and I just can’t help but feel a more traditional workout would do a better job of getting him in better shape. What’s the deal?

(If you feel the need to move this to the health fitness board I understand, but my thread isn’t really about anything useful health or fitness wise so I think it should be on this board)

The majority of the people in the gym don’t know what the frick they are doing and are too scared to ask for help

The title would suggest you have answers. You should add “random stream of consciousnes” for a more accurate title.

While it could be just an odd thing keep in mind there are a lot of non-pro athletes that do sport specific routines. Over the years I have done lots of seemingly odd exercises but they were specifically to address issues in a sport I was participating in.

Eh, yeah, but he was doing it on one foot and flailing around.

Anyway, I don’t want this to be too caught up in one person’s actions. I want to dive into the psychology of people who develop intricate systems instead of doing simple routines that are more effective

I was training for the one legged race at my company picnic. Thanks for noticing.

That wasn’t his leg he was hopping on

What would you suggest as a more simple approach to work on dynamic balance?

BTW are you sure it wasn't Teddy Bridgewater?

Everyone has a different goal. Don’t worry about why he is doing what he’s doing. Focus on your MWF curl session

Probably watched a 4 minute YouTube video on plyometrics and how they’re the supreme exercise.

Do you even Functional Fitness bro?

Lots of people do specific movements to prepare for a specific task but the practice may look bizarre in the gym.
